In most of the C&B routines I've watched, the cups are used to produce the large, surprising loads . . . are there any routines in which the cups are specifically used to vanish a large object?

Larry Jennings vanishes a large load in his one cup routine.

I recall an effect in which a large ball is produced under the Cup, covered again and changes into a fountain of silks -- does that count?

Thank you, Swann101, that is a helpful suggestion.
Yes, funsway, I think that counts. I am thinking about an effect in which a cup is placed over a large object, and when lifted, the object is gone, or in the case you describe, transformed. Woland |

Think Vernon's Ball and Cone move. Jennings used it in his one cup routine. You can find it on you tube.

In a way, Chinese Rice Bowls qualifies -- but I don't think that is what you are looking for. However, a C&B or Chop type routine could be done with the bowls first ...
or after

Mr. Biro,
Thanks for that suggestion, too. The Jennings one-cup routine is actually very rich. The way that he produces the cup at the beginning is simply . . . magical. That's the way a real magician would carry a cup around, isn't it? funsway, Thanks for that idea . . . what if one of the cups was a lota? Woland |

Black art?
Your choices in life can be compared to watching a magic trick: You can continue to believe the illusion in front of you, find the intrigue and desire to learn more, or quit paying attention the moment you feel deceived.

Thanks, Pete, for the idea of the Vernon Ball & Cone vanish. I am working on the Ball & Cone routine now and can very easily transfer that new skill to the vanish of a large "final" load in either a chop cup or 3 cup routine.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding black art. I am currently building a table for the routine, based on Mr. Bill Palmer's design, and had planned on a black velvet working surface -- perhaps a black art servante could be built into it.

.....what about routines in which the cups themselves vanish? I recall that Auke van Dokkum manufactured a set of cups that progressively reduced from 3 to 1.

At the end of his one-cup routine, Larry Jennings makes the cup disappear as magically as he caused it to appear.

I have played with a routine with three large balls and some small cups that keep jumping around behind them, but it would only entertain magicians. Shot glasses can be handled like thimbles, you know.

Just incase anyone is interested, here is the link to Larry Jennings' one cup routine that was referenced above. I think it is very magical and is very cleanly presented.

I was also interested in learning to vanish a final load. Needless to say I found this discussion. Many great thoughts and Larry Jennings is the man. However I found his vanishing of the final load obvious. I was unable to find the Vernon ball and cone.
While I was thinkiing though I came up with a way to do this without a gimmicked table, chop cup, or invisible hand. A gimmicked cup is required and I can add this to my routine. This enables not only a vanish but it may be used to produce countless loads immedietly following the last load. Possibly other uses after I think about it. I could have this in my next youtube video once I perfect my routine.

Some years ago a well-known magician performed at our club and did the cups and balls.
Sadly he FLASHED terribly loading bright red large load balls. It was kind of sad. A month later I said I worked on the routine and at the finish FLASHED terribly, just as he did... but... at the same time, STOLE THE FINAL LOAD BALLS OUT. When I lifted the cups showing NOTHING there... it freaked out the audience (all magicians).

A freebie for you out of my ideas book. It's for a chop cup routine but I think it counts.
It's really an idea for the boys at the club not real people (laymen) though! I'll have to post it in scret sessions under the heading RE: Vanishing.. Bri |
