If you're like me, it was facinating to see Levent recreat so many well-known billiard ball routines from the past masters. I would love to see more of that and wanted to see if others would also be interested. If so, here are two questions:
1) What past routines would you like to see recreated on dvd a la Levent? 2) Maybe some of us could get together and each take a routine they would like to learn and tape it, and we could compile them? What do you guys think? If so, as I said, what would be some routines people would like to see recreated? Jim

I actually do not think "re-creating" a routine is the way to go. After all, Levent has already done that, hasn't he?
I believe the best way is to use the variety of material and pick and choose moves and sleights to "create" your own unique routine to you and only you. After viewing the videos pick a routine to start with and learn it completely, then go back and see if there is anything you can inject or take out from what you have been doing. If someone is perfectly satified with a routine as is, that is okay, but, I do not think that everyone is comfortable with someone elses mannerisms. |

I think Jim was talking about routines that Levent has not re-created.

I have yet to see Levent's work, and the Cardini recreation.
I would love to see Ron MacMillan's, "Symphony of the Spheres", and would like to learn more about Bill Baird's billiard ball routine.

That's right, Chris.
Bill, I meant that we would recreate routines from the past that Levent did not choose to cover. Also, it would not be in the service of creating your own personal routine but rather in the service of an historical recreation for its own sake. MacMillan's routine would be amazing to see recreated, Michael. I wonder if any of his gimmicks are still around? Didn't he have a routine with a smaller number of balls and then his routine with the 14 balls. (It was 14 I think?) I would love to hear what past routines other people would be interested in seeing recreated? Jim

I have seen Bill Baird work, approximately a month before he passed. I had just gotten a super 8 movie camera and shot film of him working. To my knowledge, it is the only film of him working.
I talked with Levent about this routine when he did his treatise on Billard Balls. Richard

Richard,
You've got an historical document on that film! I posted to Levent while he was shooting his dvd (as many of us did) with suggested BB routines I would be interested in seeing, but he had only so much time and he also had a broader historical perspective from which to make important choices of which routines to include on his set. But there are many others I would be interested in. Anyone else have one they'd like to see? Jim

Okay, I'll get things going by saying I would have an interest in seeing one or more of the three Billard Ball Routines that Lewis Gansen published in Routined Manipulation 2.
Anyone else have any famous or interesting routines they would like to see recreated? Thanks. Jim

No one else has or can think of a Billard Ball routine from a past master that they would like to see recreated? Really?

Maskelyne and Devant's billiard ball and egg routine described in Our Magic. That would be cool. I'd like to see it at St. Georges Hall though, in evening dress, as part of this programme of entertainments:
http://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/StGeorgesHall/Prog3B.jpg Should be easy to recreate the ball and egg act, since the directions in the book are absolutely clear. |

Levent's DVD set is excellent by the way. I know everyone says that but it's worth saying again.

I would like to see the master from South America, that wrote an encyclopdic book on Billiard Balls in the 1980's, even how to make your own wooden balls and shells. I can't remember his name correctly, the title of the book was something like sorcery spheres.

Thanks, Richard, that is it, boy whenever I read Australia, I would think South America, boy was I off on the wrong continent. I always wanted to get that book.

Rooklyn was one that I really wanted to see as well! I learned about him from a book I bought when I was a kid. The book was about the great illusion shows of the past and Rooklyn's was one of the shows described in it. Rooklyn was dressed in an all-white suit and he was levitating a girl who was sitting on a winged horse. In describing his show it talked about how he was a great master of billiard balls and that he did them in every show. It should be doable to recreate his routine since Levent showed a book that Rooklyn had written all about billiard balls. That definately should be on the list.
