I wanted to weigh in on the debate. I like the look of brightly colored doves. Done properly with food coloring it is not harmful to the doves, according to performers I've talked to.
I would like to try to color my doves. I went to Any's link for the color, but couldn't find it. Can anyone recommend where to buy good color?

I don't perform with doves, but I've always liked seeing those that use colored doves. When I saw their performances, I automatically assumed that these magicians, being professionals, probably knew what they were doing. Now, years later, after doing a LOT of research, I still think so (with a couple of exceptions, of course). There are safe ways to do just about anything. As for the posting earlier about what children may potentially do as a result of seeing a magician, such as attempting to color the family bird with a marker, such rationale would mean that all kids should be locked in a plain room with no contact to the outside world. Seriously, should we be opposed to things like circus acts because some kid might injure himself while attempting a triple somorsault on a homemade trapeze? Should we eliminate cool things like Robbie Kneivel's motorcycle jumps because a kid might imitate it with disastrous results? Come on! I, for one, love to see cool things like fire eating and chainsaw juggling and so do my children. But you'd better believe that my kids know EXACTLY what will happen if they try any of this themselves. This has been debated before, and quite frankly, it's stupid. It's impossible. By the way, don't ever let kids outside, because one of the younger ones may see a wild bird flying and get some ideas and well...

I wonder if a dove has any feelings about color change. If they don't, I see no problem.
