I built this from scratch, it uses my own system. I am working on a new one with broekn glass bottles. Also another one where they choose which platform the spike screws into. What you think?

I certainly hope not, although it did sound a little like glass breaking... Smile

Yes indeed wrong link! I am currently in the middle of a desert. limited net acess. right now using this new PsP Go device from sony! it is a pain to use as it has no real keyboard! If you type 'Joe Piper magic' into youtube or google it should be one of the first results.

Nice presentation. You created a good bit of tention in the audience and had great interplay with your victim.

Enjoyable to watch.

Also here is a trailer of a larger show with the same crew from last year.

I will get the footage of my performance when the guy who filmed it is back in town. I was the opening act of the second half.

I am building my own stage props, so I figure this would be a good forum for feedback. The spike is not very visible on a large stage. I guess a scuba knife, or maybe a Samurai sword and put the platforms on the ground, and fall on each bag? That way the spectator just chooses the bags and there is no risk to the spec, might also be more exciting? Not just risking your hand but dis-embowling yourself! Thoughs??

I liked the presentation....

When you talked about doing this with swords and disembowling yourself, all I could think of are all of the competent magicians out there who have screwed up this type of effect and smashed a spike or knife into their hands.... uggg. (I know everyone of those guys thought the same thing - this will never happen to me, my method is fool-proof). It is a cool idea though. Just be extra carefull (omg, I sound like my dad now.......)

I think using the larger knife would still work for a large stage. I would use a silver knife, not a cool black one. A huge part of this effect is the reactions of your assistant. (In your video, I didn't like the lighting change when you were both smashing, you couldn't see her reaction at all... you probably didn't have much control over lighting at that show...)

No way on earth I would have slammed a spectator's hand down during this routine! You are asking for trouble!

Thomas which book? I will read it, I have always done close-up. I am only just getting into cabaret/stage. Disneywold, check my idea of the samurai sword, this way I am the only one at risk. Also there are two safety mesures in action here.

Here is a link to last years performance. I will get a better quality clip soon, I only jusr got the DVD of the show.

Here's a scan of page 302, but the rest of the chapter is just as important.

There's some really bad Youtube videos of this stunt going wrong. One specifically shows the performer whacking his hand down on the wrong bag impaling his hand into the knife. He then (stupidly) pulls his hand back, shaking it flinging his blood all over a specky.

Be careful.
