Hi , I know there have been other discussions on vent masks .But I guess I am asking those who have had experience with both Wanlu and Hilario vent masks. In your opinion which one do you prefer and why?

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak to Lou's masks, as I don't own one, but I've been using two of Wanlu's, and can recommend them without reservation.

Lou is a good friend of mine Smile I don't feel comfortable answering this in detail so just a few things to consider:

Design, budget, urgency (how soon do you need it) and mechanichs.

That's basically the things you need to consider.

I know some vents who use our masks and some vents who use Lou's masks. And I
also know vents who own and use BOTH masks. Smile

Wanlu,

How do they actually work? I have been curious about this since I saw a video on YouTube. The one I saw was very noisy and was making loud clacking noises when the mouth closes.

I got the impression it was maybe pneumatic, perhaps by squeezing a hidden bulb?

The mask I use just has a piece of thread hanging from it. You pull it, the mouth opens. Ive seen some people use this with a short length of thread> This I find can be distracting but if the thread is long enough then the movement from your hand goes unnoticed.
I think it's a boley mask, I got it second hand.

Thanks for all your replys.....I "think" Wanlu and Hilario vent masks both use the same mechanisim, something like a cable, and you press a button with your thumb and the mouth opens , let it go and it shuts. If I am going to buy, it is definetley going to be a Wanlu and Hilario vent masks, but...I am just unsure which one.

I will be releasing 3 new kinds of cable masks this month. The hand control will be entirely different from my previous ones. Also, they will come in a new slotted jaw design. And the mouths are bigger and more visible. I will let you know as soon as they are available and ready to ship.

I've got four of Wanlu's masks - two main and two back-up. Before those I used Paige Parnell's Ventrilo-Masks and original Bill Boley masks. I like the Wanlu masks for their durability, portability and ease of use.

On the clicking, if you let the jaw snap shut, yes it will click. Its not like a figure with the same problem. There you lose the suspension of belief with an annoying feature, here you do not. The situation of someone wearing the mask is goofy enough that a clicking jaw won't matter. If the audience is worried about the clicking, you need a better routine.

There are 2 ways to avoid the "clicking" sound when the mouth closes:
1. Slowly close the mouth when it is about to touch the lip.
2. Apply a thin layer of hot glue on either lip, this will coat the lip and surely keep it quiet.

What a coincidence... I am releasing a couple of new designs as well. These new designs will still have the same controls. Aside from these two new designs, I am also releasing a new line of lower priced masks which will have a different control system. If you work with hard figures then you wont have a problem with our new control system which is basically similar to a headstick.

Thanks Smile

I found another video of someone using one of these. While the vent side of the act was good, the piece of string was quite short (maybe 8 inches?) and your eyes couldn't help being drawn to the hand waving up up and down! So I think the length of string may be more of an issue than a noisy mouth.

To be honest, it kind of spoilt the illusion somewhat!

Hi Hilario, I have just viewd the video with the new mask, but in all honesty could not see it properley.

Can I ask for you and Wanalu to put close up pictures on here and in YOUR opinions tells us why YOU think YOUR masks are the best. I am looking to order but as yet I am unsure which makers mask I would be more happy with.

Best regards

Alan
