There are Kids Kards...a great option if the kids are over 7.
But I don't think most of the regular effects would wash. Especially when there are so many other options around.

Frequently I perform my Chicken Sword version using animal cards instead of a regular deck.
I mix rubber chicken skits during the routine with a surprise end. Always get a great response. |

Card tricks are not easily understood by the little ones, but a trick that uses cards is a different animal completely. When you do a double lift you are doing card magic, but if you do the lasso card trick it is a trick that uses cards and easy for the little kids understand.

I have to admit that I saw very little card magic, when I was young, that didn't bore me. It wasn't until I was in my 20s that I saw some card magic that had me on the edge of my seat. I used those experiences to make my routines, better. Most card routines still bore me, but I see quite a few gems. If the routine is good, you can't accuse the magician of using the props as a crutch.

I made my own Jumbo Cartoon like cards for different occasions, Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and general. Taco, my hands free Axtell Expressions blind-folded puppet can pick what card the child picked. This goes over really well.
For adults, I just use regular jumbo cards. |

It depends on the kind of card trick.
Tricks where a young volunteer has to remember a card are a recipe for disaster. Quick, Direct, Visual tricks with cards can be great for kids. |

Of course if you call it "whack your pack" in front of the wrong group of kids they might be laughing and making jokes so much that you don't get to do you trick!

PH's presentation almost word-for-word... not that there's anything wrong with that.
Not a 4 year old in the world that's not going to understand and enjoy a similar presentation. I wonder... To improve your kids shows, should we stop reading kids magic books for a while. I wonder... Could a well-thought-out presentation for this for kids get just as swell feedback as any $1500 box trick. My guess is... "You bet"! I wonder... What about this kind of card trick that has wide appeal to any audience, young or old? Yeah, ... card tricks suck and are boring.

Of course they do. Because you're tearing something up and putting it back together. It's inconsequential that you're using a card.
Same thing with card to ceiling. Basically you're throwing up and it hits the ceiling. Kids love to watch that!! Toss in a little personality and you've got yourself one helluva trick that fits in a 2.5x3.5 inch box. Toss in some stage-time and you've got a flack's plat blays pig routine that equals anything on the market. For $2. Worried about kids remembering something? Use alphabet or Uno cards. Using uno cards? Got a cocky kid giving you some lip?: invite him up. give the kid a seclection of any card ask how many he has (he will say one) tell him he didn't say "Uno" and sit hisass back down and you pick someone else.

I use cards across with a pickpocket theme. It goes down a storm.
