Here is a remote controlled Flea Circus that I just completed ,the box was made to look like a packing crate. I made it out of Walnut and plywood with brass trim.

This next picture is the crate opened. All of the animations were handcrafted from brass and oak. The balloon tray in the background is part of the Grand Finale where the flea is placed in the cannon and fired thru a tissue drum toward the balloons. The flea bursts the balloon that was picked by the spectator. Some of the other animations are a confetti launcher which is in the box with the letters “BOOM” on it. The front of the crate has a pump which will shoot a stream of water. There is also a small version of my Spirit Bell.

Very nice. It looks like you put a lot of effort into making each effect very deceptive. I like that. The confetti looks like a pain to reset. I love the wobbling high dive tank. I also like the packing crate look. Unusual place to hinge the lid. Looks like the lid is much deeper than the base. What was the thought behind that?

The craftmanship is superb. Just a joy to look at. The trunk lables are a nice touch.

Raven, I belive the height of the lid it so accomadate the posts for the high dive and rope walk with out having to set them up.

If I may ask, did you use multi channels or have it in rigged in series to cascade the effects?

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

The confetti launcher is very easy to load. Just lift the lid on the box and pour in the confetti. It's more of a pain to clean up LOL!
Of all the animations the unicycle is what I would consider a pain setting up (just a slight one).
I wanted to make the animations as deceptive as possible. I used state of the art rotary actuators on the high dive and trapeze. I routed out the wood installed the actators and then used oak veneer to hide the actuator. The other animations are accomplished with electro-magnet coils which I wound myself with the help of my Sherline Lathe.

You are correct MuleePete, the lid is to accomadate the posts so you do not have to tear it down after performing. The Flea Circus operates off a 15 Channel remote control. The Finale with the balloons operates off it's own 1 channel remote control.

Thanks again,
Nick

Nick,

Great job. This is quite a spectacle and if it as good as the effects you helped me build into my flea circus, it is outstanding. I like the crate and the attachment of all items (even the tissue drum and the balloon pop finale) to the box. And the effects look to be detailed with precision. I'd like to take credit for the water squirting (best effect of my circus - gets the whole audience going), although as usual, you probably perfected even further after working on mine. . .

Congrats on another excellent job. What a lethal combination: magic experience and know how, excellent metal and woodworking, and electrical/RC expertise second to none. I still think your shop is run by elves who work under the cover of night . . . Or maybe now the truth comes out. It's an army of trained fleas each with some of the expertise you claim to have all on your own . . .

Bravo.

Thanks Guys!

It took about 3 months to build in between my other projects.

Todd,

Yes, You deserve the credit for the water squirting feature. My take on it is one of the fleas falls into the dive tank and cannot swim, I pull him from tank with tweezers and start to perform CPR, with every chest compression a stream of water is shot at the spectators.

Wow, your routine is better than mine was, but mine just improved (if that's okay with you . . .).

Looks good

That lock is going to make dents in the wood. A morticed lock would be to your benefit.

Thanks Jay!

I actually like the distressed look. Makes it look like it's been around the world with the packing stickers and little dings LOL!
