I have no idea of what the name of this cabinet illusion to make a girl appear/disappear is, so I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the illusion is. I can do the research of the illusion, but if anyone can provide a place to buy one (new or used) or links to resources on how to build one would be greatly appreciated as well.

The plans and/or the illusion may be purchased from Abbott's Magic.

I don't know what your looking for, but I personally don't think the palaquin is a good choice. Try a fire cage.
My two cents,

A fire cage is ok is you want to pay for fire permits and if the theater will let you even use.

The Palanquin is a good enough illusion with proper presentation and staging. Look on Youtube at Sr. Rai doing it. I just used on in a show last week. It was used a part of a Persian number to produce a girl that was to be used on the Asrah.

It is all about staging guys. Fire is a pain to use anyplace at all nowdays.

Richard is right. The Fire Cage while a great illusion has it's problems as mentioned. We have not used ours for quite a few years because of all the regulations. The Palanguin is a good illusion with many possibilities.

Well........also keep your creativity open wide. JUST because it's called a FIRE CAGE. It doesn't mean you HAVE to use FIRE.

Magician422. There is a really nice variation to the Palanquin illusion in Woodbury’s book Illusionworks 2. It is called ‘Palanquin 2000’. As the name suggests, it is a modern version of this classic effect. You can find other ways of concealment in other illusions in the same book. Don’t get put of on the structure it sits on as that can be changed to one that does not require an engineering degree. It also can be made to fit 2 people with ease.

Luke, you are correct. You do not have to use fire. I have seen a few people perform the effect without fire. When you said get a Fire Cage I thought you meant to use the fire.

Jim Gerrish has a Palanquin Variation in his PVC Pipe Book 2 - "The Double Split Palanquin" (on my site). It breaks into 2 parts to show each part empty, then it is put together to produce two assistants.

Spellbinder,

Do you have any pictures of this pvc pipe illusion? I am having a hard time visualizing it. Thanks in advance. I like the site and the concepts.

Ummm.. not to mention the obvious.. but why would you want to build an illusion that whose method was recently described in detail on national TV?

Yeah......And on top of that. Unless you want to be a circus/magician, I don't know if you want to get the palaquin.

When did they recently expose this on TV? Is there a new MM series?

About 25 years ago I bought a custom Arturo ( Abbotts) double palanquin from Tom Palmer / Tony Andruzzi. I ended up using it in a revue show a few years later-in the round.
Here is the clip--Pallanquin is about 3 minutes in.
Now---remember this is twenty-some odd years ago in a show I had minimal creative control over. So...be gentle. LOL.
Say what you will about this effect, but the appearance of those 2 girls filling up that small framework always blew the audience away.
Clever design on this one. As you can see the final prop is too small to conceal the girls.
Sold this about 15 years back. Packed flat, fit in any car. However took 20 minutes to assemble with at least 50 nuts and bolts!
