I wouldn't buy paper if I were you.

IMHO a smart investment counselor would steer you clear of an investment as unpredictable as gold or silver.

In a well-diversified portfolio there is a place for precious metals; their returns tend to have low or negative correlation with returns of stocks and bonds, thus tending to reduce the volatility of one's investment portfolio. Unless you have a very high tolerance for risk, I wouldn't advocate having a large percentage of your portfolio in precious metals.

Generally, investment in gold and silver is not so much about profits as it is a hedge against inflation.
And considering the degree to which inflation had devalued the dollar, compared to the value of gold and silver relative to their value 100 years ago, it's been pretty consistent.

While gold and silver investments tend to be good inflation hedges, I'd say that most people who invest in precious metals do so to earn a profit above inflation, not simply to hedge against inflation.

As a pure inflation hedge, energy commodities are generally considered better than precious metals, or industrial metals.

I was more interested in if Max's thing was going to work and take down the bankster.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the info.

After losing durn near everything in the stock market (my IRA was heavily into that), I need to find something that will do me some good. And theoretically I'll need it in about 12 years. Lessin' they keep raisin' the S.S. age.

I'll probably never actually retire thought. I like what I do too much.

Dang, I just bought 10 reams to start on a new mailing campaign. Smile

I saw a TV interview a while back with that old Fed Reserve guy, I think, who's married to that newswoman. I'm not good with names. He said one of his favorite investments was to buy other countries' currency? I got some Canadian coins in my change the other day.

Seriously guys, thanks for the info.

Alan Greenspan is married to Andria Mitchell.

I gave my money to an investment counselor who invested it for me. That investment gives me a monthly check for life, and leaves some money for my family when I die. I also love my job, and I'm not likely to quit working any time soon. I highly recommend a trustworthy investment counselor, mine is Bernie Maydoff.

Yep, that's the guy (Greenspan), thanks Al.

You hooked me with that story. I took it all in right to the punch line. Thanks for the laugh.

It is a true store, but I was unable to contact Bernie (he is not taking on any new accounts), so I got my law firm Dewey, Cheatem, and How to make all my financial arrangements. LOL

I do get a monthly check from my investments, and I will leave my kids, and girl friend a few bucks to split up after I'm gone.

The concept of precious metals being a hedge against inflation can be explained with the following example.

In 1964 I could buy a gallon of gasoline for twenty five cents.
In 2011 I can take a 1964 quarter to a coin dealer, sell it, and have enough money to buy a gallon of gasoline.

Same quarter, same product purchased.
That 1964 quarter is 90% silver.

If, however, you're hedging gold and silver against the Apocalypse (as some people seem to be), you might be in for a sad surprise when you find that nobody wants to barter for a glittery paperweight you can't eat or burn, that's too soft to make anything useful out of.

Try silver soldering materials with no silver.
Silver is an industrial metal, I never mention Au, only Ag.
