My Quantum Bender 2.0, made of solid metal, has snapped in two. The weak "joint" in the middle had been wearing down for some time. And I just performed a 10p bend, and during the (one-handed) bend the pin snapped.
I can't help but feel very, very worried. The coin bend is easily in my top 5 routines of all time, and I love it to bits. Its a £400 bit of kit and I want to know if theres any way I can get it replaced or fixed under warranty. It is about 4 months old. Please help, very worried :S Tom xx

I would think you should be asking the seller and/or manufacturer.

Yes I had one (the first version)that bent before the coins did. I think uk coins are too tough for the bender I would get your money back. I think US coins are more pliable.

I have found the flaw, and corrected it.
Thankfully both halfs of the bender itself are intact. The only bit that was broken was the 1mm HOLLOW "pin" that hindged the two together. I have managed to remove the fractured part and push the remainder of the pin together to hold it temporerarly. Tomorrow I will visit my fathers factory and get a SOLID bit of pin for it, which should make it far less likely to break ever again. Seriously though John T. Sheets, would it really have added much to the cost to use a solid steel pin that's 2mm thick? Still, crisis averted. Sorry for panicing and making a thread about it. Tom xx P.S I have never tried to bend US coins, and so I cannot compare, however I am perfectly able to bend a 10p or a 20p with one hand. I maintain that (aside from this incident) the QB 2.0 is a very high quality tool; sometime I will write a review on it.

Can't be too high quality if it broke while doing what it was design for (bending coins). Sounds like he cut some corners in the manufacture process, and for that cost he should not have.
Thanks for the heads up. Please update us on the response to what type of warranty the product has and his follow up. |

I still believe it to be a very good product. I have never heared anyone else having this problem.
Does anyone know how I can contact John? His website doesn't seem to be working? I would like to know about warranty etc before I write a review.

Hi Guys,
The part in discussion is called the "pin", which is used to hold the two halves together. This part is also what makes up part of the Pivoting Joint. It is VERY rare and unusual to have one of them wear out or need replaced, as I know hundreds of people that have used them thousands of times without needing any repair of any kind at all. In the past the pin used to be a "solid" pin. However, the QB2s now have "Roll pins", which actually are better and cost more than the regular pins. A "roll pin" is hollow and it is manufactured with a slot that runs it's length, which allows the surface area of the pin to apply outward pressure on the hole, like a spring, which helps keep it from sliding out of position. Again, at one time the QB2s had solid pins, however I've opted to go with the more expensive "roll" pins for this reason. It is VERY easy to replace a pin. A "roll pin" costs about 15 cents from a good hardware store. I usually buy them from Ace Hardware Stores. To replace the pin, simply push the old one out with a wire or paperclip, take a pair of needle-nose pliers and push a new one in. Or I would be happy to do it for you for FREE (just pay shipping). My email is: john@johntsheets.com I hope this helps.

I think the histrionic title to this thread was very misleading and has caused the problem to be blown way out of proportion. It's like the pin in my watchband breaks and then I proclaim "My watch broke in half!"
I don't own a QB but I've seen it. It is an excellent piece of workmanship. |

Then....I was shocked to find out that it would not stand the heat when it was set on fire. It was COMPLETELY burned up. Seriously. I had to replace it. It cost a pretty penny, but it was worth it. Anyways, I don't have time for this...I am off to contact the pencil manufacturer to complain about a pencil tip that broke DURING a show (how embarrasing was that?!). It has been a rough day. Thankfully, my pen hasn't leaked.
