To make a really long story short, I was doing a kids show today and used slush powder for the first time, I did the bit where you pour two cups of water, drink one and the water in the other one disappears, well, the cup I drank had some slush powder left from practicing the trick at home(I realized this once I tried to drink it the first time and felt a weird feeling down my throat) since I didn't want to mess up the trick I just drank it all..
I then spent the rest of the day paranoid thinking I might die, from now on I'll be more careful. I didn't think this show would end up like this, I thought the worse that could happen was me catching on fire from using flash paper.. I was wrong. I thought a lot about my life, and compared myself to Houdini at one point.. Drinking that slushy water was probably the stupidest thing I've done.. Today. Anyone else have anything similar happen, I was wondering if anyone ever has been in that situation. Paul

You might want to make sure you have some interesting reading material in your bathroom for the next few days....

It's non toxic, but it's not something that you'd want to eat much of. Just drink water when you need to, but don't over do it. Drinking huge amounts of water can be fatal.
There was a radio show contest where contestants were trying to drink more water than anyone else. One contestant died from drinking too much, despite the fact that a nurse called the show to warn them. The DJs dismissed her warning and lost their jobs...and probably got sued. |

Yeah I drank two 16oz bottles of water and then stopped, my stomach felt a little weird about an hour after I drank it.
I heard about people dying from drinking too much water before so I'm careful about that, even though you have to drink gallons and gallons of water to die from it. I didn't know if it was non toxic, the label just says in big letters "do not swallow or inhale", so I was a bit worried.

Dear ArtofDeception,
Call the Manufacturer and see if the have advice for this or call your local poison hot line to get some input. If that stuff can clog a toilet it can clog you. There might be something you could drink to break it up. Don't experiment, call. If you think you are drinking something dangerous, stop. Think how a kid would feel if the headlines read Magician kills self for Johnny Doe's 8th Birthday Party not to mention the consequences to you and your loved ones. CALL the poison hot line and get the manufacturer info. they may ask for and tell someone close to you (in proximity) what has happened. Please let us know how you are in a few days. - Mary Mowder |

I once ate a lightbulb, then spent the next two days in a mild panic, waiting for the blood to appear. Of course it didn't; I survived intact, and was not worried the next time I tried it.

Yeah, years ago I had just started dating a particular girl. When I arrived at her apartment I took a big swig from a bottle of Scope mouthwash I had in the car (I don't know why it was there anymore). Well I was swishing the mouthful and just about to spit it into the bushes when she and a friend came around the corner. I had about 2 seconds to consider what the options were. . . and I swallowed the mouthwash. I don't recommend it, and I didn't feel great for a couple hours. I survived -- though the relationship ultimately didn't.

Drinking water with a small amount of SP in it won't do you any harm, but my advice is "don't do it again!"

How about we deal with why it happened so that it never happens again
if I understand you have two cups that you use over and over one you have SP in it and the other just water. so what you do it secretly mark one cup that you will ALWAYS use for drinking this way you never put the SP in that cup and never have to worry again glad your ok! sam

Tony - A Lightbulb!!I've heared of people getting them stuck up their back passage (don't ask), but swallowed? I must check out your act next time I'm in Cork.
As for mouthwash, the alcohol in it should have given you some Dutch courage, I swear by it, just before a show |

I drank a mouthful of gasoline once while syphoning a lawn mower. I was sick for 2 days.
The worst things ever happened to me performing, besides going on while being sick as a dog a bunch of times, was a spectator cut my finger doing cut and restored rope one night on the street and I bled all over a white silk. One time I burned myself with flashpaper using it with a vanishing candle. The skin on my hand turned yellow because, I believe, it was cooked. Jim

The most shocking thing about the water drinking contest death is that clealy the DJs were AWARE of the dangers of water intoxication:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007......ox_x.htm There are many other articles from ABC, Good Morning America and other news agencies. Balloons are the most dangerous things I use. I've got nasty friction burns from stretching them, and once had a deep cut in my finger when I stretched the (uninflated) balloon until it became like cheesewire and sliced straight through the flesh. Add in RSI and latex allergies - it's astonishing that they haven't been banned by Health & Safety! ;) |

The prize was a Nintendo Wii, so the contest was called "Hold your Wee for a Wii". According to my research, people are actually supposed to drink about half an ounce of water per pound of body weight every day. So, if you're 180, you need to drink about 90 ounces of water every day, which is almost 12 eight-ounce cups of water. This idea of drinking too much water is ludicrous. The reason that the contestant died is that she didn't "go" enough, not that she drank too much. If she had "went" when she should have, she would still be alive. |
