I was asked in the magic shop today what Thanksgiving represents and I mentioned something about stealing land from Indians. They had it mixed up with Independence Day which, as we all know, is a film starring Will Smith.
I think it's a holiday too.

As a non goose hunter or allowed near them as a kid all I know is they are big and hang out on the golf course and the lake.
(True story. My father is a very tough guy from Brooklyne. At 80 he is amazingly fit and is not the guy you want to trifle with. Growing up I've seen him stand up to up to three much younger thug types to help someone and he's got guts, kill poisoness snakes in Georgia, and over all is a bad arse....except for one area, he's terrified of geese. This shocked me and I found out that as a kid of about four or five a goose got him and tore into him really badly. So it was always interesting when we would go to parks and encounter a goose, he's pick up a stick and go past it but he really would start to have to fight panic. Thus, I was never allowed near a goose). |

Thanksgiving represents when we stole land from the Indians, and Independence day represents when we stole land from the British. That is the differance between those two American holidays.

I like Al's idea of what its about what ever the case may be. It sounds cool to me. Thanks. Have nice day anyway.

Al - that's pretty much word for word what I told them. I think they bought it so I'm in the clear for now...unless they discovered I pocketed that sponge turkey they have in the shop. ...Well, had in the shop.

Did the indians own the land? I wasn't aware of that, I thought they didn't consider it ownership. I've an idea! Let's get a map of the world and show expansionism and who 'stole' what land from who! That'll be fun!

There are a lot of Americans here that know the true story, but are saying confusing things to cloud this issue for you, so the story that I told you about feasting with the Indians after the first successful harvest in the new world is not just a nice story.

Al is correct except the pilgrims didn't call it Thanksgiving. Doesn't matter, people eat lots of turkeys and pies, good stuff.

Go back to the nice king who treated them poorly? Too many people here want to cast aspirsions on the evil white people...I hope you choke on your pumpkin pie. Happy Thanksgiving. HH |

I seem to remember being taught about the death, starvation, diase, fish, pumpkin, and corn story, but Tommy didn't really need to hear the msterpiece theater version of the story.

My wife cancelled thanksgiving and I have to cook it tomorrow. The reason? I forgot to get beets for her and she refused to have thanksgiving w/out 'em.

I did not make it overseas this Thanksgiving to see my family and grandchildren stationed there. Thank God for 7-11 stores and left over KFC. There is not enough zocor in the world to prepare my poor heart with all the cholesterol it is going to recieve.
I'm sure someone will google me wrong, but I recall in our history that our first President established Thanksgiving, no not Washington, John Henson. HH |

Beets is inportant at your house eh. My wife insists that we have string bean casseroles, and I keep telling her that Italians don't eat casseroles. Then we have the casserole anyway because her mother always served string bean casserole on holidays.

Now I want to eat a good from Canada.
My wife wants beets for some reason, her traditional Thanksgiving food is turnips and carrots creamed together. Not sure why she wants beets. |
