I posted a more detailed discussion of this in
the "Secret Sessions" section. On this open forum I want to limit my comments about the workings of this illusion.

Tilford is selling this .

a video demo is here:

http://www.tilfordillusions.com/video/sitDownLevitation.wmv

The video will download and open up with Windows Media player.

Does anyone own this illusion and willing to post a review ?

(No discussion of the method please)

Is it quiet ?

Is it dependable ?

Is it easily repairable ?

Is anyone else besides Tilford selling this ? Is the version Tilford has the authorized, authentic Yogano Sit Down/Chair Levitation ?

I am fascinated by this illusion , but it is very expensive and I am interested to know more about it before I seriously think about financing it .

I think it could be a very effective illusion with the right presentation (the video demo is excellent ) .

By the way, Yogano has a web site:

http://www.chez.com/yogano/menuyogano.htm

It's in French , so I can't read it , but it has some interesting photos .

It is quiet...
It can be viewed from the side with a little coaching to the person who sits on it during the rise...

It is sturdy...

It is dependable...

I would've chosen a different material for the pad on top.....it is felt-like...

There is an nice gentleman from Civezza, Italy "Carmelo Solano" who uses it in conjunction with a snake basket....The person whose card is revealed is amazed when the snake rises with her card as she too rises from the stool.

The Yogano Chair (Sit Down Levitation) as well as the Yogano Saturn (Vetical) Levitation, and Yogano Diablo are Authorized as far as I know.

You will note that the Modern Barstool is Not called Yogano

I owned one - performed it once and sent it back to where I bought it from!

It is a very heavy affair, designed for a lightweight person. If you try and force the weight limit you will be in trouble. The movement is very sensitive, and starts to "judder" if the weight is strained. Be warned! The mechanism is not easily repairable. In fact the delivery of my chair was delayed as the mechanism had broken twice during manufacturing.

The genuine Yogano chairs have a wood like finish to them with a deceptive seat area.
I would buy direct from Yogano if you are considering buying this.

Consider the transporting of the very heavy chair, the very heavy battery, and the lightweight assistant!
Yours Magically,
Lee Alex

I have seen it performed and it can be a very good effect. Just have to figure out whether your gewtting enough magic value out of it for what you are paying.

That would be my main concern. I need something that I can repair or can be easily repaired by local technicians . I can't ship it back to France for repairs or parts .

The price doesn't scare me . I think for the effect it gives it is worth the price. But not if I can't easily "get in under the hood" and do tune ups and repairs. For this price I would expect something that would hold up to 5 or 6 shows a day in a theme park or trade show situation .

Dai:
I agree with you. If your using it that often, you really do want to be able to make repairs closer to home.

You hit the nail on the head there! The performance has to be top class, or the chair becomes too much in the spot light and gives the game away.

My chair was made by Yogano, but commisioned through another dealer.

I guess you could get the chair repaired closer to home, but at the price I would not expect to have to ever repair the chair anyway!

I get better reaction from a normal chair suspension than the Yogano chair, as it is simply too mechanical looking, just like a lot of Yoganos material. The biggest disappoinment was to see Yoganos flying grand piano performed by Danni Lary ( France). The price of this piece is way too much for the magic value contained within, and the whole thing lasted a good few minutes to the point of being boring.

The pictures of the Saturn by Yogano are also very misleading, being supposedly shot on a beach with nothing else around, where in fact there is the whole mechanism present on stage at the time of the effect.

Yogano seems to be a great technician with some stunning ideas, but it is down to the performer to give life to those ideas and put magic into the mechanics.
Yours Magically,
Lee Alex

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Yogano via email ?

The email address given on the Yogano website kicks back the messages as "undeliverable -- user unknown" .

On a similiar note, what is the name of the barstool levi which (to not give anything away) you can't use just 'anybody' from the audience? I believe Harry Anderson performed it? Anybody know who makes it, and the list price compared to this? (or if they are even still being made?)

The Christian Fechner Barstool Levitation is made by Wireless Wizardry :

http://www.wirelesswizardry.com/barstool.htm

It's listed for $7,500.00 . There's an online movie demo of it on the Wireless Wizardry site. Looks very good .

The movie is here:

http://www.wirelesswizardry.com/Barstool.avi

Note for Mac users:

The movie would not properly load up on my Macintosh until I opened it with VLC Media Player, which is a free , cross-platform movie viewer application . You'll have to go to the link http://www.wirelesswizardry.com/Barstool.avi and select "Save As" barstool.avi to your desktop , then open it with VLC Media Player . A lot of those old .avi files or obsolete movie fomats (like Vivo) can be viewed using VLC Media Player .

Download VLC Media Player here:

Maybe its just me, but the method seems pretty obvious. It is the sort of illusion where I think a lot of the audience would be 'expecting' to see you remove the chair, because there should be more to it.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are

Yogano is still making some of his illusions like the barstool (small & big version ) and his new stool levitation (stool & person sitting on it levitate)
The stool Tilford is selling is not a yogano original, they are made by studio dominique. I think only Stevens magic sells the original yogano levitations in the USA.

I watched the video on this. Nice, but I think it would have a problem. It appears that the person is just rising up on a hidden platform built into the seat. It goes only as high as the top of the back.

I think most audience members would go, "Wow, strange chair the way that back can support some sort of motorized gimmick." May not be totally figured out by them, but if they are sure of it in their minds then you are hooped.
