How are the balls lit? Do they take a battery? I've never visited that site before - they've got some neat items!
Donnie - congrats on the avatar. It's nice to put a face to the name of the genius.

Methinks you would need to turn 'em on before you start the routine, based on the type of switch.

I have some balls that light up as well. Like Bill's, they light on impact and can't be "timed." They are, however, a lot of fun. These are slightly larger than golf balls, but fit perfectly in RNT2 Paul Fox mini cups.

I've seen some "jelly" type balls that light up, it would be very simple to doctor those.

Bill, I had owned a set of Busby Stainless cups and those were pretty hefty pieces of work.

I used to produce one of those big Mad Balls from a Don Alan Chop Cup that was about a 3" diameter eyeball. Bright blue bulging iris with bulging red veins around it - it was a shocking looking thing.
The line was: "You have to keep one eye on the cup, one eye on the ball, and one eye on me... wait... you need three eyes." And I love heavy cups! |

You should see Auke manhandling the monster cups one-handed.

The heaviest cups I make are the Gazzo Street Cups and the Super Street Cups. They both weigh 11oz (312g) per cup. But they are large diameter street cups.
The heaviest standard size cups that I make, which take a tennis ball size load, are the Foxy 3 Combo Cups, they weigh in at 8oz (227g). The heaviest mini cups I make are the PF Mini Combo Cups, which take a golf balls load, they weigh in at 3.2oz (91g) I mention the last two because they are unusually heavy for their size. |

There is something about heavy cups..........I vividly remember opening the package that contained my first "real" cups. Before then, I had only handled flimsy, aluminum cups (From Ickle Pickle or E-Z Magic, I believe). These things were so light that if you sneezed anywhere near them, they would keel over..... but in this new package was a set of "real cups", a set of Magic Inc. (mis-named "Charlie Miller") copper cups. The weight of them is what immediately struck me. It suggested durability, robustness and solidity - cups that would last; cups for men and not boys. Cups that somehow communicated the idea that if you were really serious about cups and balls, this is what you should be using. It was an epiphany!

I'm with you, Fortasse. My first set cost me $13 and they were Magic Makers cups and balls...it was the first "real" magic trick I ever bought.
Then I ordered from Donnie, and when I open those up and pulled them out of the box, I felt like I'd graduated to the big leagues. It was an awesome feeling. I even remember where I was sitting - in the driver's seat of my car, across the street from my house and waiting for my girlfriend to come out to the car. I just couldn't wait any longer to tear that box open.

All of this reminds me of the first time I handled the School for Scoundrel's Brass Shells.
But that is probably a story that belongs in another topic... Quote:

That is impressive! 312 grams says the Gazzo Street Cups and the Super Street Cups beat the Auke “Jumbo" Cups. Auke recently stated that his Cups weigh in as follows: Micro cups: 30 grams Mini cups: 100 grams Standard cups: 200 grams Jumbo cups: 300 gram Super jumbo: 550 grams Chicken cups: 1.1 kg Monster cups: 1.8 kg There is some great info here for weight aficionados. By the way, a special thank you to the incredible Bill Palmer for helping me to get deeper information about the Auke Cups. Bill, you are the man!

The two heaviest cups of Standard size that I have used are the Sisti Profesional Cups in Steel and the Paul Fox cups by Busby. They both felt much heavier to me than the Auke Cups.
I think that the Auke cups felt well balenced though. I was unable to play with the set I looked at though. The Foxy 3 cups have a great fell in weight and balence. They do not feel that heavy when your using them. Donnie weighed my Sisti cups but I do not remember the weight right now. I think it was just under a pound a cup or something like that. Mobius |
