Last week I was invited to represent my country (Philippines) and perform ventriloquism in the Jakarta puppetry festival in Indonesia. When I was there, I was introduced to their amazing ancient puppetry form called wayang golek.
I was taught there by the Indonesian puppeteers the basics, bought few puppets and now I'm into deep study of wayang golek. I hope to add it to my act. Just a shot in the dark: anybody here who had experience (seeing/performing)with wayang golek? |

It's kinda like a rod puppet and some can be quite articulated in their movements. When I was in Hanoi the Indonesia team did a show with Wayang Golek. It was a one man show where he manipulated the puppets with his hands, use his feet to bang on some metal plates to create the show effects and had some projections on the wall as his backdrops. He did the character voices and had a 3 musicians accompaniment.
I think he had more than 8 puppets where he did some intricate movements with the puppets which is quite impressive.
the heart is where the magic begins
