Well, america has begun to censor the Internet world wide now.
http://www.osnews.com/story/24074/US_Gov......Websites http://torrentfreak.com/u-s-government-s......-101126/ And it's NOT just sites connected to illegal downloads. A LARGE portion of the sites were selling clothing and purses/handbags.

Good. They all deserved it and I hope they suffer. Could be worse, the govt could have taken stuff away from a Svengali pitcman...that would have just been wrong.
For those of you concerned about finding purses there are still over 5,000,000 sites which reference purses on them. I've got to update my GDW list: Pro: stealing documents from govt. posting stolen documents making available copyrighted material on line Con: Police govt security preventing the posting of stolen documents preventing the availability of copyrighted material |

Never said I was for pirating. What I am against is abuse of power.

Really? I say it isn't abuse of power, it is use of power.

Piggy backing!
Speaking of purses I was at a large higher end flea market (meaning in a very nice community) and law enforcement was there. They go up to this couple selling knock offs of some designer purses and they (the agents) start bagging everything up, going into the couples van and taking out the purses etc and just removing everything. Man, that couple just sat there looking straight ahead, never said a word to the agents, never looked at them, just completely and absolutely ignored them. The finished getting the stuff and dropped some document (I should have grabbed it and posted it on line) and left. It was so amazing that agents could be taking everything and it all took place in silence. |

I guess they'll be going after every shoe store that sells knock offs of Ugs next. Or how about every grocery store with generic no name brands of popular foods?

No, but they will go after companies that sell these ugs (what is an ug?) shoes that label them as such but they are not made by ug.

From what I heard, the clothing and handbags being sold were counterfeit.
Granted, this probably should have been the FBI's jurisdiction- but if the sites were hosted off-shore and the hosting government was unwilling to cooperate, there isn't much the FBI could have done. I won't speculate further without knowing the details.

It's a boot. And an ugly one at that. An appropriate name.

It's spelled "Ugg" just to make your search easier.

Uggs & counterfeits make me laugh.
Ugg boots appeared around 1920/30 in Australia and New Zealand. Some Australian surfer starting selling them in the U.S. in the '70s and trademarked Ugg in the U.S. In the mid '90s some big shoe company bought his business and starting suing every man and his dog for trademark infringement and sending out cease and desist letters to Australian manufacturers who didn't take too kindly to it. In a victory for common sense (which no doubt means a great many in the legal profession were upset ), the term Ugg was found to be generic in Australia and New Zealand only and was removed from the registry of trademarks here. Rest of the world belonged to the shoe company. So, if you want to buy a real Ugg and not an UGGâ„¢ boot, you know where to look. (Personally I think they're ugly looking and wouldn't be caught dead in a pair.)

I say good for the actions that the U.S. has taken regarding the sites in question. It should have been done sooner.

I wonder if this will be the end of Internet porn.
From what I'm told, a good majority of the sites out there that have porn on them, and serve as the main advertising outlets for much of the "pay" porn, also have user uploads of "copyrighted" porn, as well as user forms which include links to upload/download sites also containing more copyrighted porn. a good many of the sites already taken over did less than this. That is, they did not host ANY copyrighted material, they just had links posted to their site that linked to OTHER places where one could download. Many of these were user posts. In other words, they could shut down the Café if people posted such links here. Another site they shut down only allowed people to find links, again to other sites, where material was hosted. It was a simple meta-search engine. In other words, Google does exactly the same thing.

I do think this may remind us of another quote that will probably apply to the use of this bill in the near future. Sure, many, if not most of us don't support the illegals download sites and the like, so, we're not gonna do much when they come for them. Or when they come for the knock off purses, or what ever is next. I am 99.999% certain this will be used, and very soon, to censor dissenting opinions. All it takes is for a comment or two to be posted by a user on the sites forum or comments section containing a link to something not even on the site, and they will have their excuse.
