10 Exact Cuts by Henry Evans, I would like someone to give a review of this? It sounds too good to be true, but does it live up to its advertisement?

In my opinion, it totally lives up to its advertisement.
I was in the front row of Henry Evans' lecture in Philly a few months ago. He did the routine six feet in front of me. I was the spectator who shuffled the cards (one full table riffle shuffle). It totally fooled and blew me away. It plays like the ad. I bought two of them. Gianni |

At first when I got it I was disappointed. I thought I would never use it. But after toying around with it I felt more comfortable with the idea. I'm sure you have heard a lot of people say that about a lot of tricks though. So here is more detail.
I really think the effect is a powerful effect and I will use it a lot. It lives up to the advertisement too. It's one of those tricks that gets the "WTF" look on spec's faces if you are using their deck for some tricks and employ a deck switch for 10Exact Cuts. Trust me, really freaks em out. They will have no idea how it was done. They'll think Darwin Ortiz just performed for them. (if any specs know who he is) You'll hear a lot of "I'd never play poker with that guy!" type of statements. As for durability, it's a matter of how long a deck of cards last you. You won't be beating the heck out of these cards, but you have to watch out who riffle shuffles the cards during the effect. Your 40 dollar investment will get ruined if the cards are bent. Also if the spec drop cards on the floor, the trick is over and you need to think of a very convincing "out". As for it's ease of use, you should have no problem at all. A little practice and you will get the knack down. Forget about angles pretty much, they are easy to cover and really you don't need to worry about anything in that department. This effect is so boggling that spec shouldn't even consider a "re-do" but if they do, forget it. Reset is almost impossible in front of specs, although I suppose you could go into another room for two minutes. All in all, I think it is a really worthy investment. I give it a nine out of ten. Hope this helped. Craig

It is a wonderful effect, as almost all Evan's are. Anyway, I think the concept of "exact" cut is more appreciated by magicians than by laymen, and the appearing of a sequence of cards may be achieved in a ton of ways without a gimmicked deck. Anyway, I can assure it maintains its promises and work perfectly, so buy it.

I found an interesting thing about the deck that is not mentioned in the instructions. The center dot on the cards are colored-in on the cards directly under the spade cards. That way you can see whether you cut to the right spot if you see the colored-in dot. Those who have the deck will see what I mean if they check.

I think the effect is absolute crap since the trick isn't reliable at all. I played around with it some time but it failed 90% of the time as you won't be able to strip the deck appart perfectly which is necessary for the effect to work.
As I am a beginner you might be able to do better but I don't think it can be done well enough to perform it without failing 50% of the time due to the mechanics of the trick. |

It's only absolute crap because your card handling is absolute crap. Practise the strip phase and practise some more and you will find it is an amazing effect.

Quote: Disagree with you Pegasus , I know at least 3 real world workers who have great technique who have struggled with this. Infact one guy I know even took the deck back to Henry the following year at Blackpool and he even couldn't do it and I witnessed it. A lot relies on the fact that Henry is using a new demo deck very often and they strip out much cleaner as a result. Its a fantastic effect though when it comes off. Maybe Henry has improved the gimmick deck by now.ie a more forgiving stripper deck ?

Fair enough. There are ways around this though, like a decent false shuffle instead. Even I can do a reasonable false shuffle.

I have had this for years.
Early on I found it possible but difficult to do a perfect strip out every time,,,,, So, I do it without the strip out! Just changed the handling slightly and I still have a KILLER effect! |

This routine is really for formal performances. I've had it for years and have used it for an "encore" to my close-up show quite often. I've not had any problem with the necessary work. If you know the technique for getting air between the cards for tabled stripout shuffles, it also works with this deck and makes the work easy and reliable. In probably 500 shows, I've never had it hang up, but I will admit that I check it by feel before going on with the routine.
As someone mentioned, if you were really concerned you could even simply do the shuffle yourself and do a full deck false shuffle. Franky, if the shuffle is convincing I don't think it adds much to the effect that a spectator shuffled the pack, except, of course, to the participating spectator himself. I verbally emphasize that someone shuffled it throughout the routine, but I don't think it would be weakened if I simply did it myself. I always ribbon spread the pack face up with the shuffled pack still partly telescoped. The arrangement can't be seen and it is very disarming display that truly convinces the audience that the shuffle is genuine. I think it's an outstanding trick and it really makes one look much more skillful with a pack of cards than he probably really is. |

I have the dvd... and try make the gimmick using my own special deck like Henry say...
But was a total disaster... I lost my deck... I think that is impossible create a deck like that in home... the cards need a special manufacture... My english is not so good.... I will stop here... |
