I move to Chicago recently and in doing some research, found out that Dai Vernon and in famous 'Trick that Fooled Houdini" happened a short bike ride from my place (in a building that has been torn down, but still...). I also see that the event happened in 1919, but cannot locate any other information as to when in the year it happened. I was wondering if anyone might have read/heard any information regarding this. If not, I guess I am off to the microfiche at the library to check in the Tribune when Houdini came through town in 1919. Thanks, in advance, everyone!

It actually wasn't 1919. The exact date is in Chapter Three of the Vernon Bio.

Lots of conflicting dates around (1919 vs 1922), but I think I'll go with the one that has an exact date. Does anyone have the book handy to type out a date? I do not have the book as of yet (though it seems I am going to have to get it...). Thanks, James!

February 6, 1922 at the Great Northern Hotel in the Crystal Room.
It was witnessed by several people, among them Sam Margulies and Bess Houdini. David Ben has captured the incident well.
