Hello Guys,

anybody knows where I can get an illusion like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2FMIWkOdP0
I think it can be performed without an assistant...

Thanks

Christian

From the looks of it... I would say it was a gaughan, but who knows. It could have been by Willie Kennedy even. I just really don't know. But out of John Gaughan, Bill Smith, and William Kennedy. I would definantly go with Willie Kennedy.
And you don't have to have the automated panels. He'll yeah they look cool. But it just doesn't work out like you probably think it will. When you get it. You'll think.....Why on earth did I pay an extra $5,000 so these panels could move up and down.
My two cents,

Do you think that it is build like the shadow box in Osborne's Illusion Systems 3 (page 66)only with automated panels?

No. If I'm correct you are referring to Rand Woodbury's Shadow Box, which employs the "Hang on for dear life" method. Julianna's method is entirely different than that. However, you certainly could duplicate what was displayed on the video using Rand's Shadow Box. Julianna's is cleaner, but I'm sure the audience would see the same illusion, effectwise. Good Luck. I don't think she used enough cross fades in that demo...SERIOUSLY! What ever happened to one continual shot????

Rand Woodbury that...Andrew Mayne this It doesn't really matter essentially its a shadow box on a base. Not your classic shadow box. Personally I would get a classic shadow box.

I thought it was really good.

Now to be honest...what I expected was for the shadow of the levitating rose to visibly begin morphing and grow into her shadow.

It's builtby Roy Shank and reworked by me to make it work. The flower and vase were just in the dressing room and I added them to the shoot to make the prop more interesting. There are lots is cross fade because the mechaniaim Roy built sucked and several take were needed to make a clean shot. Since that taping it has been fixed with pneumatic lifts and works like a charm...

Shawn,

Is I would reshoot it. I LOVE Juliana Chen and I think that she should be shown in a better light. The cross fades make it appear as if all the magic is in the editing room. I'd love to see one static shot of her performing this.

FWIW...

I agree Christopher, but she doesn't do this effect anymore and her performance schedule really doesn't allow time for her to get back into a studio often. I find it is generally the case that those that don't work have the best promo and those that work often ... don't need it. In fact I know a number of highly successful magicians that don't even have a business card!

Cheers,

shawn

When I was booking the IBM shows, I noticed those with the beautiful brochures were the worst performers. Smile

I thought the video was awesome. I liked it. However the stage right side panel didn't come up flush with the prop. Seemed a little off to me. Thaks for sharing.
