Funny how time flies... Just two months ago I was still writing Perceptions, and I'm already trying to improve tentative ideas for Visions, for the hope of a release by Valentines Day, 2011. Even as I struggled to cap off Perceptions, ideas kept springing to mind. At the moment I've been turning over 6 new ideas, all relating in some way to the top effects of MindCraft: Perceptions. They're in no way substitutes, but rather similar, different, and improved ways to accomplish similar things. I've got down roughly between 2 and 10 pages on each idea.
Mental Peek and Variations: Perhaps my favorite of the collection. You can now name what number a spectator is thinking of between 1 and 100. Or do whatever you want with that knowledge, such as a book test. That's right. Words, numbers, and fun galore, all built into a gimmickless, truly 100% hit rate, writing-less, 5 language supporting, nontransparent, simple system that emphasizes their freedom of choice that can be performed impromptu, and naked in under 45 seconds. Cheers. Fair Peek: Anyone acquainted with the Fair of MindCraft: Perceptions will now be able to verbally force a playing card laying flat on a table in literally just three or four free choices, in a nontransparent way, with true free choice. Under Thin Ice: Based off On Thin Ice with the inspiration of someone on the Magic Café, I've expanded the original little cold reading script into a full blow routine that allows you to do everything from give a detailed reading to true "inferences" about their future. A bonus effect based on this follows it for a Q&A-esque mind + cold reading routine. Lots of theory in this one. Through the Looking Glass: A dual reality think a card routine wherein the spectator really has a free choice, and really looks at a card, which, when named, matches a prediction that is face down on the table, or in the jacket pocket of the host, stuck to the ceiling, or taped to the back of your shirt. Easily the most interesting take on dual reality I've yet come up with. This uses something I call selective filtering. ColorPrime: A Prime-like effect I lightly touched on in Perceptions is now expanded and drawn up into a full blown demonstration of your mind reading prowess. With just a little luck, this can grow from a small mental trick to true and chilling mind control. I've killed with this on an individual level. It always hits, but once in a while it hits far, far, stronger. A version for stage also briefly outlined. Psychic PsychoPath: A strange little mind game I came up with wherein you and another spectator attempt to write down three unspoken, unwritten emotions that another volunteer will mentally project. Whoever loses takes the title of an emotionally cold psychopath. A bit from the darker side of mentalism. No gaffs, switches, indexes, nailwriters, impression devices, dual reality of any form, peeks, or any other such devices are used, yet you correctly guess every emotion before they choose it, unlike your perpetually psychopathic fellow detector. Those are the official ideas and effects I have in print at the moment, although there are some notes and theories dropped in. I'm hoping for some constructive criticism on the work that could spur more thought. The next five individuals to PM me will receive a complimentary copy to have a look at. I'm not asking for reviews, just some more honest pairs of eyes. I feel like I put it out too late last time, so when the ideas kept popping from others and myself, I felt like I had to cap it off. Thanks, all. Kind Regards, Bill Dekel

I don't want to give much away for obvious reasons, but essentially it's a use of another principle I discovered, that I am quite certain no one has ever come up with before. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out and all it's applications, but I don't want to tip part of the method lest you think it's something it's not. I'll put a little more out there later on.

No clue. I only have about 35 pages down at the moment, and most of it is pretty basic, plus I'll probably end up taking out some weaker effects (as I ready did prior to this thread). I also have a couple more ideas for effects, and will want to incorporate ideas from my examiners in the book as well; then run it through one or three editors who've all kindly volunteered to clean it up for me. That alone could take a month or two. I'd tentatively aim for early February. I'm really liking the ideas in this one, while they are different from the material in Perceptions, some will pick up on similarities that they'll be able to use on effects in both books. When I'm done with Visions, my goal is for you to be able to perform an extensive yet enjoyable demonstration of mind reading and cold reading any time, anywhere, with absolutely nothing except yourself, for half an hour to forty five minutes. No paper, no pens, no books, nothing, unless you wanted them, and even then everything could be borrowed and examined. That's what I always believe a mentalist should aspire to be; an entertaining mind reader who doesn't need a hundred billet index, a billet peek, or a couple of doctored books to do his job.

Just thought I'd post an update, things have been moving since.
Surprisingly, I haven't added any new effects, and am beginning to think I may not wish to; I'd rather have a handful of really powerful, impromptu tools then a whole sackful of material I'll probably not use on a regular basis. The book has expanded from 35 to 46 pages. That said, I wrote up a good amount of material on how to use the effects in the book and in Perceptions, in a section I call Impromp2. Essentially I go over two full blown routines you can perform on the fly for a few friends or just one, down to the patter (obviously using placeholders so as not to give away Prime or the Fair). I'm beginning to see this book more as an extension of the last; a honing of tools so to speak, with the addition of at least one powerful new one. Using one of the effects in the book, I have literally read minds. I say that in the fairest sense of the word. Literally read minds, with no risk. In other words, someone freely thought of a color, and I named it. No fishing, no psychological forcing, none of that... I literally read minds with this, multiple times, with a complete backup. So in other words, in the event that you don't get a mega hit, you still get a double hit. It's quite hard to explain, but essentially about 30% of the time (although I am now getting results much higher than my originally estimated 30%), you truly read minds. The other times, you make it look you did in an invisibly clean way, naming a color dead on without fishing -- thanks to a thought spurred from Prime technology. So either way you win, but a good portion of the time, you REALLY READ THEIR MIND, and you can milk it for all that it's worth. It's quite elating. You're doing to ******* real thing. While none of the effects in the book are really dependent on the material in Perceptions, you can do a whole lot more with certain parts and you get the big picture. The other major addition, which is an entirely new idea, separate from material in Perceptions, Mental Peek, is quickly becoming one of my other favorites due to a far more direct version that I've come up with. Essentially you ask a spectator to think of a number between 1 and 50. It takes about 10 seconds to get the number implanted in their mind, and then you can name it directly, or, as I generally prefer, use it in a book test with a borrowed book. The possibilities with this flexible system are limitless. It's freaking power, because you are implanting a thought directly to their mind without use of hypnosis or NLP. Did I mention that it works 100% of the time? Your spectator never catches on, they THINK they had a free choice, but you draw their mind directly to one number. All that said, Impromp2 merely mixes and plays on variations of these effects and others from both Perceptions and Visions. None of the effects in Impromp2 involve dual reality, fishing, or the spectator writing/saying any clues, much less the exact word(s). Routine A picks up on colors in the minds of spectators, no words spoken, with 100% hit rate on every spectator, then the performer gives the spectator a truly free choice, and then with two more influenced ones, he flips over the top card of a borrowed deck to reveal the spectator's thought of card. It looks how it sounds. He lastly asks everyone to freely think of a number between 1 and 50, and try to mentally project it to him, catching all of their thoughts at once, in a powerful moment. Routine B focuses on a single friend, presumably sitting with you over coffee. The mentalist brings himself in as a friend and a reader, as opposed to a direct mentalist; giving a direct, accurate, and detailed reading based on nothing but the spectator's own mind (thanks to the new expanded Under Thin Ice I came up with in Visions), going into the participants current mental state, recent feelings and actions, and then going so far as to give beneficial advice based on subconscious reflections of the participant's own mind. The mentalist then goes on to pick up on a line in a book on a page the spectator is just thinking about (neither the line or the number is ever spoken by the spectator, no fishing is involved, and the book can be borrowed on the spot). He then goes on to pick up on three, thought of emotions from the spectator in real time with stunning accuracy. At no time are the emotions named, no nail writer or other gimmicks are used; the words can be written on napkins and passed over to the spectator if you wish. I feel quite comfortable with this effect; it's never failed me. Needless to say the one ahead system is not used nor anything remotely like it; you really do write the emotions as your spectator thinks of them, and they really do feel like the choice is free... This phase borrows the methodology of Psychic Psychopath in a friendly, rapport building system. If you don't mind taking a slight risk, you could even name the emotions as your spectator is thinking of them. Lastly, you and your spectator think of fruits, and then mentally project your thoughts to one another like tossing darts, and then you both read each others' minds on the spot, great for "connected minds" rapport building. I feel like a schoolboy typing this... Should probably tone down on the coffee and get some rest. Just a short snippet of the stuff I'm working on.

Dang it.. Just have to add that with practice, you can literally stitch a routine together on the fly with the tools in MindCraft Visions and Perceptions. I've never felt this satisfied with ideas in my life.

Wow, Im very excited to see this on library! If this is as strong as you describe it will be the next generation of mentalism. I really liked your work in Perceptions and Im working on a strong version of prime in german language, but I think Visions will be one step further!

I'm reading 'Mindcraft:Perceptions' right now. I am up to page 41, and I am totally convinced this was a very worthy buy. There is some excellent thinking, some great ideas, some excellent methods and excellent routines. Reading the copy for this made me think it was too good to be true, but I am have been very pleased with most of it - perplexed by the first effect and description of the method, but that all cleared up when I got to 'Prime' which is worth the price on it's own, and that is not an exaggeration. Anyone who knows me and my work knows that I want everything to be as real as possible, and this really fits the bill. There were a couple of things I didn't like in the book, but I am thinking about different ways to achieve them, as the effects are great.
I am very happy with this, and I am very much looking forward to the follow up. I'm off to try the thought of card routine now... |

I've been working on another effect which will be in MindCraft: Visions (which has just reached 50 pages). It's called Wonder Weapon. Here is a snippet:
As a mentalist, I've often wanted to ask someone to think of a card, and then verbally tell them what card they are thinking of. Well, Wonder Weapon won't quite let you do that, but it will allow you to do the next best thing. It allows me to say a few words, and then name what card she's thinking of. That said, she doesn't even respond to my words, not verbally, not even in body language, much less speak. She doesn't understand in the least how I can do it. But I can. --------------------------------------------------------------- That's literally what it looks like. It's beautifully simple in working, yet beautifully invisible at the same time. You have to read this one to believe that it can be done. I'm beginning to like it almost as much if not more than the Fair. Like all my work, it's impromptu, and requires no writing, gimmicks, dual reality, or preshow. Your spectator's thought and choice is truly free, no equivoque or forcing of any kind. No tangible deck is used. You tell them to think of a card, and then manipulate their mind just a little.

It's also ridiculously fast. I've pulled it off in less than 10 seconds. It uses a very, outside of the box sort of idea I chanced upon to make it tick. Essentially you say two or three sentences and by then you already know what your participant is thinking of.

Bill's thinking in "Visions" and his previous release, "Perceptions" is very unique and offers an 'out of the box' approach to mentalism.
My favorite items are "Under Thin Ice" and "Wonder Weapon". After reading Wonder Weapon it seems that this idea can be explored and expanded to more than just playing cards...the idea is great! These ebooks are priced right and definitely worth checking out! Great job Bill! |
