JD, My seances are theatrical. They have always been theatrical. I am not sure how you got the impression otherwise.

Be true to yourself and the art, and you WILL be successful. All the best. Now go scare their pants off. LOL Cheers.

Greetings seadog93, Happy Holidays and I am very sorry for the loss of your Grandmother. Your memories of her and your times together will bring you comfort in the years to come.
I shall try and answer the question you pose, please forgive my attempts should they fail. Quote:
On 2010-12-26 02:19, seadog93 Ones religious beliefs are very personnel and should be honored. Certainly a forum such as this should not explore ANY religion. I will say any performer should familiarize oneself with others beliefs. I would recommend everyone take a course in comparative religion. No one should offend a paying customer and frankly we should never offend those who mean well. That said, it is possible to simply be a CROOK hiding behind religion. Let us explore that. I have no problem with a PERFORMER making money performing using any subject. I have no issues with physic fairs, palm readers, occult bookshops ...etc. Until it becomes exploitive! You charge $20.00 to make someone feel better that's great. You use the same "technique" to take her to bed and walk away with $60,000.00 of her life savings then your SCUM and deserve life in jail. Do not scoff! The same story is very old and repeats itself today. DO NO HARM. Power over others is a powerful drug. If your using religion or magic tricks to exploit others your SCUM. Simply being naive does not resolve one of being held accountable to harm perpetrated on others. I know it's a popular notion for there to be no good or evil, right or wrong. But if someone goes hungry or without their medications to pay you to communicate with a dead loved one YOU are exploiting them and your EVIL. Words are powerful tools and semantics can and do weave stories that are true but also false. Buyer beware. The preponderance of all known knowledge, to date, is that communication with the dead does not exist! I know some religions believe otherwise. If your using cheap magic tricks to help your religion you are a FRAUD. Past that what you believe is of one's own choice, simply DO NO HARM. peace |

Primum non nocere is a Latin phrase that means "first, do no harm" it is associated with the medical profession and has nothing to do with performance art. We are not doctors and don't have a hippocratic oath to take before performing. You can whine and carry on about it all day long and still the truth is what it is. Performers are not responsible for the condition of their patrons.
Have a nice day.

A court of law and a jury of one's peers make the ultimate decision as to right or wrong. Being naive and well-meaning are poor defenses. If you live in tent and ride the bus you have little to worry about.
I suspect you have no worries. |

RCP,
I agree with your statements; I simply think there is a difference between saying that there are frauds who claim to contact the dead and saying that anyone claiming to contact the dead is a fraud. I suspect that it is semantics and that we don't disagree. Thanks for your response.

People have been prosecuted for years on not only this subject but mentalism. Unless one is a witch hunter from the 1500 or 1600, I can't see why anybody would keep the RIDICULOUSNESS alive? But hey, that's me.
Cheers.

Hi there Magic Man/Airamas and now jdmagic357... still trolling?
Folks, this person (David Samaria is his real name) is getting a secret thrill out of working you folks up into a lather... it's the only power he has in his life. He is deliberately trying to incite an argument so he can get his jollies by arguing back and "winning" (at least in his own demented fantasy world). He creates his own world of fantasy fame and influence online and he probably has multiple online accounts on this forum alone, so he can pretend he's somebody else every day. The sad problem is that he actually believes his own line of made up BS. He's been trolling magic sites all over the web starting arguments and generally being a trouble maker - it's the only thing he's got going for him. I suggest that you don't rise to his bait or even respond to him in any manner. I've had dealings with him in the past. Don't waste your time arguing with him... it's a dead end road... just trying to save you some trouble and energy... Never wrestle with a pig... you just get dirty and the pig likes it... Sorry to interupt your discussion with this little interjection but I saw it happening and thought I would try to save you some future agravation. Please continue with your seance discussions....

I remember watching this thread unfold a while back... Now I really feel like a voyeur.
One of those cases of an interesting conversation gone wrong. "When good posts attack!" Maybe its all in my head though. On occasion when people have a "debate" back and forth like this, I Imagine raised voices, and rude tones of voice. Wait, now I'm certain that's all in my head, this is all just a bunch of text after all... Isn't it? |

He seems to be gone again and has started a blog that allows him to lash out at all he thinks is wrong with magic.

Qed! Is this the same Q (David Quidas) from the Secrets of magic forum? The one that openly exposes magic tricks, of which you are a moderator?
Lovely to see you. Same as usually, nothing to contribute magically so on to personal attacks. Nice to see you haven't changed.
