People seemed to like my review of Alchemy Moon's Elite Cuss cards;
so here is the next offering from this mysterious new purveyor of unusual curiosities. Death In The Family Here is the YouTube sneak preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imEn5PHFtM4 and the Death In The Family page on the Alchemy Moon website: http://www.alchemy-moon.co.uk/death%20in%20the%20family.htm The Effect: The thing with the stuff from Alchemy Moon (and others producing items in a similar genre) is that the effect itself (i.e. how it physically happens and what the performer does to make it happen) is not the important part. The emphasis is completely on the experience for the audience. And this effect, like Cuss cards, is not easy to describe. The audience are invited to try to lay to rest the soul of a long dead music hall star. To do this they are led through a seance-like experience; during which certain unknown information about the deceased is uncovered, Evidence of contact with the spirit world manifests itself in physical objects that can be handled by the audience. And a jolly good time is had by all (just lightening the tone a little there) What do you get: Inside the package is three bundles folded in waxed paper and wrapped with string. They look as if they belonged to someone's great grandfather. And no one has touched them since he died. The bundles contain a quantity of "Photomorphic Plates" used to make contact with the spirit world. And the instruction book. The Book: This is where I start drooling, please excuse me. Most effects include enough instruction to enable you to perform it, and that's it. If that were the case with Death In The Family (DITF) The instruction book would stop at page 8. In fact the book continues for another 20 pages, full of ideas, tips, back story, presentation suggestions etc. How many effects have you bought where you can honestly say you actually ENJOYED reading the instruction book. The rich detail in this (and the Cuss Cards book) would appear to be a labour of love by the author; and the props themselves are produced with the same mindset. Difficulty: As mentioned earlier, the emphasis is on the experience, and the means to make that the focus relieves the performer of having anything difficult to do at all. If you can read this review, you can do what is necessary. I am lucky to have bought the first ever Death In The Family. Do yourself a favour, check this out. http://www.alchemy-moon.co.uk/death%20in%20the%20family.htm Steve |

This is a beautifully made and well thought out product. The photomorphic plates are really cool and they smell cool as well. The accompanying book is brilliant and also beautifully produced. The premise, mechanics and full presenation, as well as further ideas are all done to a very high standard, while the text features eerie photos throughout.
This routine needs a seasoned professional with loads of confidence to create the correct ambience and convincing story line. There are four strong hits in the routine and like Jim Critchlow's brilliant Whitestar, the props themselves are a talking point. This is one for the spooky folks for sure! Love it. Dr Todd |

Dr.Todd, PLEASE promise me that you wont ever buy me aftershave for christmas if you think the cards smell cool........ The effect is the most logical use of the method that I have ever seen, good strong story, beautifully made props and a fantasticly well produced instruction booklet that would put other "manuscripts" to shame. 100% practical and usable stuff from Alchemy Moon.

What are the photomorphic plates made of? In other words, are they a card stock or a glass type product?

I'd like to email these guys to make inquiries about a couple of their effects.
Anyone know how to contact them? I know they say to contact them through the forum... but I'm not sure exactly who I'm contacting! Some contact info would be great, a mailto link would be even better! Thanks for the help! |

Email: lunalchemy@googlemail.com
but really the best way to make contact is through the forum: http://ambazzar.freeforums.org as I do try to keep in contact with all the members of my family there - also, you may be asking me a private question by email, it probable is the same question that others are thinking. Believe me, things are VERY busy for me at the moment, if I can answer more than one person at a time, it leaves me time to do things like eat and stuff. You will find me odd but approachable!

I would like to say that Death In The Family is a piece of art.
Mine arrived last week and I am still amazed by the look of the Photomorphic Plates, the paper wrapping them, every detail (including the smell), and how much thinking went on this incredible effect. I can tell by the care with the details, not only of the props, but the ideas also, that a lot of love and dedication went on developing it. Actually, it's not just an effect, but one could say it's an experience. And that's what you create with Death In The Family: an experience which will be remembered and discussed long after it is over. I'm really pleased by it's possibilities! Just a last addendum, I need to thank Christopher for his excelent customer service. What he made for me, after a small issue with my order, and the attention he gave me is something rare to find these days. Thanks man, and congratulations! Cheers, Ale |

So what is going on with Alchemy Moon? I'm confused with all the different websites. Is Death in the Family still available?
