I saw a performer step on a little black device that sprung an appearing cane into the air. Dose anyone know what the name of this little device is and where to get one?

It's called a cane launcher (clever, huh?). Harry Allen has them, see

I'm sure other dealers carry them too.

Interesting routine. A bit too much of the same thing over and over for my tastes, but he (he? sex was hard to tell) routined it pretty nicely I thought,

I enjoyed the routine. I don't know where he bought his canes, but they made a nice sale.

If you buy an appearing cane consider a metal one rather than plastic, then you can combine it with a flash product and it won't melt!

Flip side is I've had people tell me that you can cut your fingers on the metal ones if you aren't careful. Id think this would particularly be an issue when trying to time a grab out of mid air.

I've done it many times. makes for a bloody mess just minutes before show time. I now use a glove on my hand when I put it into position.

What I've done is; unlock the cane, wrap the attached silk around length wise to secure it. When ready, just toss the 'silk' into the air, and down comes a cane. Pretty effect.

I've had my Russ Walsh Appearing Cane since 1961 (purchased at Harry's Magic Shop on "K" Street in Sacramento,... long gone...). I repainted (masked off and dipped) the white tips about 10 years ago. It still works magnificently. I lube it after use with gun-oil (swabbing the insides too), then a light rub with a rag. If you see a used one for sale, consider buying it. They are extremely well made. I don't think any modern appearing cane is as mechanically perfect (or quicker!).

Thanks for this topic. I've been looking to use this trick for awhile now.
