Greetings,
I need some snake basket schooling. I have decided to invest in a Terry Lunceford Viper Snake Basket. When I do a search I get some many results that it is quite confusing. What is the latest carnation of his basket (ie. Viper II, Viper III, Pro Viper) etc. I have seen one for $525 and one for $425. Is this just price difference or am I looking at different models? Where is the best place to purchase? Should I contact Terry directly? Thanks everyone..... Dorian

I bought my Terry Lunceford Prov Viper II Snake Basket, from Denny and Lee. The Major difference between "I" and II was the number of 9V batteries, II had three Batteries and prevented the failure rate that occurred with the first model. I was told III was really no difference except for the price. For best advice contact Denny Haney at Denny and Lees, then buy it from him. I still use his advice and I don't mind paying maybe a little more because he won't steer you wrong.
There are many Snake baskets, and I truly love mine. It works with all audiences, except those who are afraid of snakes. It's my next to last closing routine and just before the Chair Suspension Illusion. I altered mine by putting a micro switch shaker in the basket that sounds like a rattler with the basket adding to the suspense. Tim Sonefelt, I've heard also has a great routine with his too.

I was glad to see Dennis Michael advising contacting Denny Haney at Denny and Lees. They won't sell junk; and the staff gives such good advice. Performing in the real world. Years ago a tip from them changed a mediocre handling into pure magic for me... I never thanked them properly.

I was asked (PMed) several times about the shaker I created for my Pro Viper:
Here's the response I gave. It's the guts out of a stupid toy that shakes and makes noise or sings or talks. I cut the speaker out, went to a music shop and picked up an egg shaker (Musical instrument), drilled a hole through the ends and put a coat hanger through the egg and taped the ends of the hanger to the shaker with duck tape. The push button that started the shaker I changed to a magnetic reed switch (Radio Shack) so when I get a magnet near it it turns on. It shakes for about 10 seconds. You might find a toy like this at a dollar store. It is battery operated. Here is a more expensive toy: http://www.bizrate.com/dog-supplies/oid1670670671.html that shakes, but this was not it. Mine was like $2.00 You see them a lot with on/off switches on their hands/foot. Some sing, some rock some do both. There should be plenty now it's around xmas. It gives the impression there is a live rattler snake in the basket. The reed switch is on the outside rear of the basket. Using one of those shelf extend-reach grabbers http://imgsrv.worldstart.com/ct-images/extend-reach.jpg (This is the one I use) to lift the lid of the basket off, pick up a fake mouse hiding behind the basket, trigggering the shaker with a magnet on the end of the extend-reacher and giving the mouse to the assistant to feed the snake which will jump out of the basket grab the mouse eat the mouse and then select the card. (Of course they don't by-this) but it plants the idea in the mind and everyone screams when it happens. Playing with this and building it up makes for the fun of this routine. The shaker is not required but it is an added dimension to the Terry Lunceford's basic funny routine. Tim Sonefelt puts on long "snake protector gloves" so he don't get bit to take the lid off. (The remote switch is in the loosely fitted gloves, but he doesn't use the shaker gimmick I created.)

I have Terry's Pro Viper II. My problem is that I've lost the remote control does anybody have any ideas?

I have had Lunceford's snake basket and sold upon buying Nick Wenger's Snake and Shake, which is a lot more reliable, a lot better crafted, and much easier to work with. I cannot recommend Nick Wenger (Remote Guy) more highly, and encourage anyone thinking of Lunceford's Viper (any version), search on the Café for the thread about Lunceford's availability and reliability for answering questions and fixing broken Vipers.

Nick Wengers snake basket is so much better than the viper. much more reliable and so much better built. Also less expensive. Better quality and less expensive. Also you can get in touch easily with Nick and he stands behind his products 100 percent.
