It seems that many times when I'm doing cards at shows, especially if biz is slow, I'm working like a dog and the vendor next to me is just sitting there, watching me like a hawk. Or he comes up behind me and REALLY watches me. After he's seen me do the pitch 10-15 times he'll ask, "Hey, what do those things cost you?" As if I EVER ask him.
I always say, "Well, the guy I get 'em from has so many of 'em, he PAYS me a dollar apiece to take 'em. So when I sell 'em for $7, I'm really making $8." They always look at me for a moment--then say, "Are you lyin'?" "Nope just jokin'" Jon |

I would say "They cost me $6.89 and I sell them for $5.00....do you have any idea how many I have to sell in a day to make a profit?"

While I'm perfectly happy to share pitch info with folks here on the Café who have expressed a real desire to learn, I'm not sure I'd want to volunteer that info to some vendor who is either 1) bored and just curious or 2) trying to hone in my own business.
I think I'd rather operate on a "need to know" basis", and I think the above replies are right on point!! SETH

Politicians have a way with answering people without answering the questions... " you know a lot of people don't really know how much work/time I put in, and I put in a lot of over time. I have to carry all this stuff in set up and then I have to do the sales pitch and demo this. Not to mention I have to rehears it... I am on my feet all day long just trying to make a buck, talking to the people, trying to make just enough to pay for this space, and make alittle profit... At the end of the day I will probably make less then minimum wage." now sell this person a deck... If he dosen't want to but one... Ask him how much money he has.
"So you see how this deck works and it is very easy to use... How many decks would you like to buy from me?" I learned that if you want someone to leave you alone, ask them for Money. The short answer "I don't know, I am just the salesman..." then try and sell him a deck. just my 2 cents... |
