I was trying to buy an Omni Deck recently and noticed that very few places still have it still. Elmwood and many others appear to be out of it and intimately I did find one at MJM - it seems that these are not exactly in big supply.
Anyone know why? Is the Omni still being manufactured? This is a cool effect for ambitious routines, and I just watched Craig and Dave's Wizard DVD showing their take on Omni matched with the WOW2 gimmick.

I believe that you can go on Shawn Farquhar's website and get a omni deck that is actually less scratch prone than the regular one.

I believe that Shawn's is a slightly different design to the standard one too (the dimensions are slightly different) which has specific advantages.... It's a while since I saw Shawn lecture this so you'd have to contact him for the specifics!

Already have Omni gimmick. Is his handling available in written form or on a DVD without buying another gimmick?

RE: "it seems that these are not exactly in big supply".
Because it's an old routine (around 20 years?) Demand is always for the latest and greatest so dealers are hesitant to re-stock older items that will most likely sit on the shelves gathering dust. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink. But then, these days a lot of the newer stuff is gathering dust too... |

I have just purchased all rights to the Omni Deck and I suspect they may be a little more available and in demand in the near future. This is an outstanding effect and the impact is second to none. Ask anyone who does it and they will tell you just how strong it is on a layman. For the moment they are still available at my website but most good magic shops have always stocked them ... you just have to ask.
Cheers, shawn |

Shawn, do you of anything on the market, written or on video, which has compiled any different effects or routines with the Omni? Many thanks in advance

I don't like the Omni Deck, the method is really transparent.

I've seen adverts for a 'Glass Deck' which would seem to be the Omnideck under a different name. Think I saw it at Alakazam Uk.

Purchased mine directly from Shawn after his lecture.(Highly recommend his lecture) Shawn has had it manufactured to be just a tad smaller than the standard poker size card allowing you perform the most incredibly clean and easy DL. I incorporated the Omni deck into my walk around "card to pocket" routine as the finale. Nothing makes you look better to the folks who have hired you than "big reactions and screams of laughter" from across the room. This is one of those effects that accomplishes that and will get you noticed.

Okay gang! Sorry for the following rant!
But Shawn F. the holy "see through deck....plastic deck...acrylic deck...etc...etc..etc.." was a log time Andrus' idea; unless you can substantiate your claim back to 1976; which I might be wrong... but I am pretty sure that is not the case! It basically comes down to a "routine thing." Why would this even be important to me...because I AM the guy who made Jerry four decks back in 1976; of which I am sure were the first. Jerry used the deck in lectures to illustrate and illuminate how people operate on assumptions versus reality. I recall seeing that you give credit to Jerry on your site for the "apparatus deck," cum laude to you! SIDE BAR: I believe that you were good friends with Dwight Vance, who was Andrus' life long friend...which should complete the connection. The following is not a hit against your deck or use of it but a truth regarding making one that really needs to be out in front of magicians who are thinking about this "piece" of apparatus. I sincerely and honestly believe that Jerry would have said the same thing. 1. They following is how I made the decks for Andrus in my H.S. School shop class [back in the day when school kids actually had to take classes to actually pass the grade.], with supplier modifications for today. If you want a "clear deck," go down to/contact a glass/plastics supplier in your town (you can also check the local High Schools...they have great resources) and ask them to cut (not sand down...important point here) a piece of "Acrylic Sheet" to your "square" specs. DO NOT USE general plastic or other materials. Ask them which materials they use for commercial projects. Actually, the best bet is to ask the H.S shop teacher for the acrylic block materials which students use to make 2" X 2" dice projects from...you can have this cut down to the size you need both horizontally and vertically. This should cost you about $5.00 or for free if they have scrap around. In this case you will need to do some water polishing to get the face and back clear again. 2. Now, trace the size deck you want with the "rounded corners" onto the blank. Then either run the blank through a disc sanding machine yourself to round off the corners or have the glass/plastic company do it for you. 3. Finally, here is the key...you will end up with a really rough ugly deck on all four sides. DO NOT sand the "grey, fuzzy, semi-opaque or what have you..." off the sides until it is clear! Take a piece of 200 grit wet/dry sand paper, actually wet it, and hand sand the sides until they are the same opacity or "color" as the sides on a deck of cards. 4. Wash the blank with dish soap. You have a piece of apparatus that will last a very long time. I realize that my post may sound pejorative...it's really not! I just hate seeing fellow magicians pay out the nose for something that they can make or have made locally for a lot less than suppliers. I guess this puts the target on my back...oh well! Let the "flames" begin! Best Regards, John

Okay Shawn...I just read this on another forum (Ellusionist) and I am truly....sorry but I have to reply. Here's what you wrote on that forum.
"I appreciate all your concern for the "welfare" of the Omni Deck, I was a friend and fan of Jerry Andrus and love the work of Danny Korem. I know Mr. Korem has no objections and believe in my heart Jerry Andrus would approve too." DUDE! Jerry would have no problems with you selling his idea to the magic community...which was his idea not Danny Korem's...but creating a routine...selling that...manufacturing the deck selling that...guy you are taking an idea and making it something it was never intended to be!!!! I like the slide about being Jerry's "friend"..."ohhhh"...really how long did you know him? After Jerry's death, so many people claimed to be "best buds" with Jerry. I knew Jerry for over forty years and I never remember him saying that you were the keeper of the clear deck. Okay, let's make it simple...if you are the heir apparent...time to cowboy up! Here are the two acid tests for anyone claiming to be Jerry's "Bud!" #1. What did Jerry add to his popcorn to make it his favorite movie snack? 2. How did Jerry eat his pancakes? Oh, don't go whining on me here...these are questions that anyone who spent enough time with Jerry to "market" his ideas would know without any problem. If you were Jerry's "friend," as you claim, you would have dined with him on many occasions...which, by-the-way, was how Jerry really defined friendship...spending time with someone eating, working in the yard...talking about magic...driving from one magic meeting to the next, performing magic etc... Shawn, you are a great magician, without doubt. BUT, my teacher, mentor and above all...my friend was greater! He knew when to quell the ego and give others their credit. If you or anyone else believes I am blowing smoke here regarding this issue, try contacting and asking Ray Hyman, Professor Emeritus of Psychology University of Oregon...a life-long friend of Jerry and who-by-the-way, taught me everything I know about the psychology of grandma's necklace. Rod Rodgers', an amazing magician whom Jerry credits in his Card Control, Lastly, but least, Jim (Kiqua) Gamble, another very personal friend of Jerry who was credited in Andrus Card Control. But in the long run...let us cut to the chase... ask George Andrus, Jerry's eighty-something-year-old brother. Whom in my opinion should be receiving rights to Jerry's ideas on the clear deck. John

Shawn posted that he purchased the rights to the Omni Deck from Palmer Magic so I'm not sure where this whole rant is coming from.

Also, just to stir the pot, going from using a clear piece of acrylic to demonstrate how our expectations can help to fool our perception to using the deck as an alternate finish to Paul Harris' Solid Deception is a huge leap. That was Danny Korem's idea and that is what you are buying when you buy the Omni Deck.
