Hey guys. I am new to the forums and trying to confirm that the cards I got for my son are authentic Jerry's Nuggets. I don't plan on opening them, so it makes it tough to make sure they are not knockoffs, which I hear are pretty good fakes. Until ... you open them up and it becomes pretty obvious then. They bend easy and don't fan.
The photo is the actual deck I recently purchased. Are there any pros that can help me authenticate my purchase? Or help teach me what to look for on the outside? I don't see much information on exterior identification. Jerry's |

You'd probably get numerous responses in "the workers" section opposed to here. I suppose if they're not authentic though, it'd be considered a little funky...

Isn't the manufacturing date underneath the glue on the side of the box?
(Although maybe the fakes are dating them '1970', too -- I dunno.) |

Yeah, I have been getting rerouted around the forum trying to get help about this deck I bought. Someone else told me this is where a lot of people talk about Jerry's decks because it is a collectors deck. And very familiar to those to do card slight at hands and flourishes. I don't want to post all over the forum the same post, but hope I find the right place.

Boinko,
the date is inside the box and this deck is sealed where I can't view the date without potentially lowering the value of the cards. |

I just did a google search and there's a site dedicated to determining the authenticity of Jerry Nugget playing cards. This link may help:

Seek out Lee Asher.
He posts in the Café. When it comes to JN, trust him.

This reminds me when I saw an ads couple of months back on the website. It was Chinese website tho and they sell JN decks even the black ones. I don't know if JN comes in black color. I do speak a little Mandarin but that time I couldn't understand most of the characters so I asked one of my friends that speak good Mandarin.
He said it was knock off. However, when I looked at their actual pictures, they look so convincingly genuine.

For what it is worth, I can tell you that in the comparison pictures I have seen, the US playing card company seal appears to be a much deeper blue on boxes of the real cards and seems a bit washed out on the fakes. In looking at the picture you posted, the blue color of the seal seems to compare with the real thing. There are some comparison photos at the site that AsL linked where you can observe this for yourself.
However, this could be simply the quality of the photo, the lighting, or a variation in the color of the seals from USPCC. As others have indicated, if you do not open them, you cannot be 100% certain. The only other way I suspect would be how much you know about, or trust, your source. I certainly would not trust any source from any Asian country or from anybody that has them priced at an unbelievably low price. Also, if you bought them prior to 2008 they are most likely real since I'm pretty sure that was the first year that the fakes hit the market. Good Luck

Why don't you open them from the bottom. Then reseal them when you have verified that they are indeed real and not fakes. If they are fakes then no need to reseal them.

This might be a little late but I am quite certain this is a real deck.
Here's why I think so: 1. So far I haven't seen a fake deck with the original red opening-strip on the cellophane, which yours does have. 2. The seal looks like the actual stamps they used on the original Jerry's Nugget decks (the edges of the stamps are perforated), compared to the pictures I got from eBay-fakes where the edges of the stamps are zig-zag. 3. The color of the box itself looks well aged. So if I were you, I wouldn't open the deck just to check, as it is very likely the real thing. Cheers

Hmmm,
I need to take back reason #2 as I just checked my decks and some do have a zig-zag stamp. All of those were purchased years ago.

Open them and use them, seriously. They are just cards.

Daryl mentioned he had a couple of these for sale. They were pretty expensive.
