Does anyone here know what is the best type of metal or material to get the best sound from a coin ladder? Thanks in advance.

It depends on the coins. With normal coins, I would use a high carbon steel.

It's not the type of metal.. it's how it's mounted.

you need to look at a xylophone and see how the bars are mounted to get the "ring"...

you might even use the bars from an acutal musical instrument!

I've always wondered if you could make one that played a tune... money makes the world go around from Cabaret? it would be funny with the first coin.. and then it would be noise with the rest of the coins.. but it would only need to be recognizable ONCE..

The best metal to use is brass plates. These are made of different widths as well to create different sounds. Consult a music expert if you want a musical tone from the coins hitting the brass plates.

The plates should hang from string, so the tone will resonate. As an example take a look at those little brass tubes that hang on a string and used as chimes, they are different lengths. See a music store for advice.
