I know there is no right or wrong for this but how long should your vent routine with a particular figure last on stage?
Do you think it's alright to bring him back on again at a later part of the show or is the surprise element lost.
the heart is where the magic begins

I work primarily with kids, and I have found the right length of time to be 6-8 minutes for a vent routine. Any more than that and they tend to get figidity, even if they really like the character. The attention span just isn't long enough now a days, due in part to the kids watching short , fast bits on television and in other media. I also only introduce the character once in the show and break up the performance by having two main characters, and some other vent novelties such as baby cry, distant voice, etc....and very occasionally a magic trick to give my voice a rest. Hope this helps!

You're right, no right or wrong answers here. In my case, in my adult shows, I can use 1 figure for even one hour. But for my kid shows, between 5 to 15 minutes for one figure is alright.
Many times I open my kidshows with my main (Hartz) figure Nonoy, then use my other puppets, and finally end/close with Nonoy again. That format has been going well for me for many years now. |

Since I have no figures specifically for children, I write my scripts primarily for adults with the duration somewhere in the 20 - 30 minute range per character/figure. What the other guys said about children audiences I totally agree with due to the short attention span some children have.

I see where the best time for a children’s show would be between seven and fifteen minutes.
In the opinion of the Vents experienced with performing for children; what is of the best category of material that will interest children so as to keep their attention? |

The marionettes were made by a friend of mine from Singapore, you probably know him. I have never tried bringing back a figure in an act, I don't see anything wrong with that but I would rather bring out a new character... What I tried a few times and it worked well was use an Axtell monkey hand puppet in the earlier part of the show... then bring out an identical Axtell hands free monkey at the latter part of the act as a puppet's puppet.

Hopefully Mark will have some material on distant voice. You can drive your fellow passengers nuts with that.
