Grettings to all fellow Hypnotists and Magicians,
it has been quite some time since I have last posted or even been on this site. I have been away learning new tricks and practicing my inductions etc...

I wanted to post a relevant question I have regarding a youtube video I recently discovered this morning.

The title of this video is "Zap: The World's Fastest Hypnotic Induction" the link to this video is posted below, actually there are two different videos I would like some input on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6T1OeRdNuE&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9OFBcbz7FE&feature=related

this is called the Zap induction by Hon Wong and I was hoping that maybe somebody could tell me if this method really works or is there some possible prep work done before hand? has anybody here actually ever tried this method of Hypnotic Induction?

This not hypnosis. This is assault. Don't bother with it. Overpriced rubbish.

And now, the answer to your question;
yes it's mainly re-inductions for the clips in order to be put on youtube etc.
But... can it be done cold? Absolutely.
Suggestion: don't go away learning new tricks and practicing your induction without keeping in regular contact with The Café, where you'll learn even more and you won't have to re-read threads which are over a year old.

Cheers,

These type of inductions personally make me cringe. Imagine doing this on some poor unsuspecting person that just had rotater cuff surgery/damage or a pinched shoulder nerve. I like this much better:

Or this one I do that I stole from Anthony Jacquin:

This show was done at a bar/nightclub. This is one of my favorite places to do a show. It was originally a stage theater hall in the late 1800's. It was converted to a movie theater in the 1940's I believe. Turned into a nightclub in the 90's.

The funny story to this locale is this: Before I did a show there, I did some recon on the room to see petential strengths or weaknesses. I realized they still had the mechanical trap doors in place and they still functioned. I do not do magic per se, but, I could not pass this opportunity up.

Talked to a magician friend and we set up what would be an insane entrance. I get there the night of the show and unload the few extra pieces of gear I was going to use to make my grand appearance and noticed the owner had the stage recovered and they went right over the trap doors. It was heartbraking, however, it was much better I found out then .....I could have wound up under the stage having a Spinal Tap moment. -Shane

Thanks to Shane and Bobser for answering my question, I respect hearing from someone who has been in the practice for many years. and that year old post just did't quite help answer my question, I thought it of more as a post for others to bicker with eachother so I thought I would atleast see if I could get some updated thoughts and ideas.

@Shane, I see you are here in Columbus, OH as well, though I have not known you perform here. maybe there perhaps a way that I could see one of your sets sometime and would really be interested in maybe getting some pointers.

I don't know if I can give you any pointers worth anything. I would probably do more harm than good Smile. I hear MANY good things about Bill Gladwell. If you want hands on training, he is probably THE guy in the area and he is not far away. The only shows I have been doing here in Columbus is for private clubs, weddings, etc. I have been having issues with night clubs not wanting to commit properly for some reason. May be something I am doing/not doing. However, word of mouth has been good for the private shows.-Shane

HAHA 'tis not the season I guess for anything magical, but yes Bill Gladwell is a very wonderful guy. I contacted him the other day as I'm looking to get some professional training rather than what I already know and learned from reading books and watching instructional DVD's. The main problem is my conflicting schedule which Bill has already mentioned he could work around, but with college and work it may prove a tad difficult for even him to work around unfortunately.

I wish I was able to help with their commitment issues and you as I'm positive they are missing out on something truly amazing and worthwhile in aspects of entertainment. But maybe much more marketing on your behalf would prove valuable in their efforts to book you?!

Ah, Kyle,I now understand your reasoning why you re-asked some of the questions. In that sense it's a good idea, unfortunately, as you've probably realised by now, ZAP never really did take off (Thank God. LOL)so in a way we're still where we are a year ago.
For what it's worth I, like you it seems, am always on the look out for one on one's with other hypnotists, even a chat over a coffee. I don't think I've ever walked away from any hypnotist without picking up something from each one of them. And hopefully giving where I can. I can now go almost anywhere in the UK and call up a fellow hypno for a beer (ie today I am meeting up with a golf-coaching hypnotist in The New Forest). It's gonna' be fun!
Good luck on your journey,
Bob

First thing I noticed is there isn't much speed in this. Secondly it isn't really an induction its more of a pre-induction. And its also pretty dull to watch.

I can see why.

Then its probably a good thing I didn't show you where after this I take right off with the show. You would have claimed I used stooges or something.-Shane

Also, kmpx18, we can get together and chat if you want. Don't know if I can teach you something you don't already know, but, the conversation would be fun.-Shane

Shane its an obvious observation. If your second part of the show is that good why on earth do you put the shabbiest most amatuer part up? I would've thought you would be hiding that part and putting up the "good part". Makes simple sense. I can see why your having trouble getting commercial establishments to to take you seriously.

Of course don't listen to me steal off hacks instead that's the way to go.

That's the problem you're not in a position to teach anybody anything. that's the problem with this forum. Its quickly becoming a breeding ground for hacks.

Punisher, I said in my own posts I probably would not do him any good and recommended him to someone who could. My offer was nothing more than to meet with a fellow from here and chit chat. For this I dub thee Masterof the Obvious.

I wont say my shows are perfect. You would probably hate them. I am not here to cater to you. I am here to give these people a fun time. Which they had. I have no need to impress another hypnotist. They don't pay me anything.

As far as that part of the show you mention, I was just showing an induction. That is what this thread was about. There are 3 other basic skits you can watch off that link as well. Obviously, you looked no further. Nothing special, just run of the mill skits.

You have become an odd fellow as of late. -Shane

@Bobser, I understand it didn't take off and I can blatently see why. I unfortunately had the video downloaded to view and Hon had provided very little useful information whatsoever. also I deemed that it looks extremely painful -.- I just don't understand it. I heard Hon say that it was only a 3-4 inch jerk of the arm but it looks as if all he really did was perform Judo and physically assault the subjects or participants which only just dissoriented them.

@Shane, yes I do agree it would be fun. I'm in the Westerville area not sure if you're familiar with it, but also I must find the time since I work such crazy ridiculous hours and such Smile

@Mindpunisher, I wasn't looking for Shane to teach me but only to help point me in the right direction. Also not everyone is completely perfect "like you", it's the attempt of performance and giving the audience as well as the subjects a good time, one that they will remember and look back on many years from now.

Shane, couple of questions.

First of all, what is the deal with the "stage" (for lack of a better term) they have you on? Oh lord that is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Second of all what possible reason could you have for doing the inductions off mic? LOTS of reasons not to do that. Starting with audience boredome, them thinking you are doing nothing but stage cueing the very few people left on stage with you, and on and on. This illustrated the problem I have with most hypnotists (and I am not picking on you Shane just making a wider point.) in that they forget the audience needs to be entertained first and foremost. (Maybe not how bobser goes about it but in the situation you were in for certain.) PLUS your voice on the mic helps to keep them focused and less distracted by noise in the room.

I am not picking, just asking. I hope I do not seem like an "odd fellow" for doing so.

Oh as for ZAP, what can be said that hasn't? It is made by children and marketed to children.

Danny, I do not think you are an odd fellow. I read all your posts with enthusiasm. Although we may have bumped heads once or twice, you are one of the ones here I admire the most. You pose a couple good questions and points. I will break down how I got to this point. Maybe you have some better advice for me.

The stage itself does no look pretty, I know. It is rock soild. The front part of the stage is an extension added on for bands and whatnot. The owner is going through some renovation and is going to clean it up. This was done at the same time they recovered the original stage and went over the trap doors. I believe this was my 4th show at this venue since the beginning of summer.

I did this induction off mic because I only had a hand mic at the time due to me breaking my lapelle mic. I know its not pleasing to the audience. Here is what happened on this show to get me to do these inductions like this:

If you notice in the left side of the screen, you will see a little white ball on a stand. That is the " Sphere of Sleep ". It is a handy little ball that changes colors slowly and has a tendency to " Change shape " with focus...... wobbly, much like a bubble floating through the air. It works great for fixation inductions. I had 10 other people on stage and ended up keeping 4 of them. I stated in another post I used the sleep gun on them and used the sleep shotgun on a big guy. I then continued with the sleep shotgun on the last guy, a smaller guy.....and he flipped over his chair from the "impact". This spooked and brought the other 3 back out. It was early in the show and I had not really gotten any deepeners in...I just took them in and out a time or two. I reinduced them and gave them a suggestion to forget what had happened and all the other niceties to ease them ,but, they stopped performing as smoothly as they had been. I could see they were not going to do well for the rest of the show.

I reinduced them again, gave them some nice post-hypnotic suggestions and released them. I made a couple quick jokes about the guy that caused the issue. Nothing offending.....just some sillyness to ease the crowd. I called for more volunteers and ended up with these three. Now, the two guys on the clip had volunteered before at another show. The girl had seen my show before and she told me she was just at a wedding I did and had fun. So, I had 3 warm potatoes up there.

Instead of doing the standing induction or another fixation induction, I went with an induction I have a high success rate with that I can get them in very quickly. I edited a few seconds out before this and I believe my verbiage went " This is a type of induction I do not do very often because it has no stage effect. It is really nothing more than me just showing off. " The laughing you heard came from a customer that had too much to drink. She didn't even want to be there, but, her friends made her go. I don't think it was much after this the bouncer escorted her to the door.

The show went on great with these 3. I would love to have a stage full of people like the little guy in the blue shirt. The audience was happy and many waited around after the show. We took some pictures. A few people bought me a some cocktails. People talked about the skits and said they hadn't laughed that hard in a long time. We had fun!! Even though a few things didn't quite go as planned, I was still able to keep it going and made people feel like they got their money's worth.

If you have better advice Danny, please, by all means......-Shane
