Saw this at a magic show in London and is sold by Card Shark (German firm).

The spectator riffles through a deck, stops where they like and remembers the card. They then look through the deck and the card is gone only to reappear in the magician's pocket.

No sleights, and performed in the spectators hands.

Awesome.....but it was £65

Lots of links on this already - this is a GREAT GREAT GREAT effect and worth every penny/pound/Euro.

Each deck takes hours by Cardshark to create by hand, and the end result of the effect is powerful. Making this would be a pain in the tuchus!

Here are some links, and this is now certainly a strong contender for best effect of 2010 by the informal poll here at the Café:

It's like The Locked Deck, but a bit better.

Quite a bit better than Locked Deck - Lots more $$$ too obviously - but quite examinable - with no holes in the deck either.

I think the effect to the layman is almost exactly the same as the Locked Deck. Which costs about $15. And available in Bikes. Depends on the presentation, not the method, in my humble opinion. The chance of being busted is almost the same too, the GS deck is not totally examinable, but "quite examinable", as you say.......

£65?

I would never normally pay that much for a trick BUT I bought this at the sessions convention and did it at my residency of Hardcore magic fans AND IT KILLED. No amount of sleight of hand can do what this does. And that is PRICELESS.......

I am a very accomplished card worker BUT if I want to kill an audiences brain then this and the EXTRACTOR are awesome.... shame its in Phoenix back and not RIDER.

So we can actually do this trick using a Locked Deck?

Great review -

But the Riders would be an impossibility as the thickness of the cards would never allow for the perfection that the Phoenix Double Deckers create. This is the genius of the Phoenix DD - and why prior attempts going back decades of making the "Taylor Peek" deck may have been quite good - but "Get Sharky" is in a whole new class.

The weight of the Get Sharky cards - the buttery feel - is just close to ideal in my opinion and calls no attention to itself. So far not a single spec has ever even noticed that they are not Bikes. I can tell by your enthusiasm that you love 'em though Smile

They would notice they are not Bikes if you do 90% of your card work with Bikes and then for this trick you switch to a different brand. With the popularity of Poker these days people are actually more familiar with cards.

I would switch over to using the Phoenix deck exclusivley as this would solve that problem.

Just curious though, if someone googles Phoenix cards (as this is printed on the box and on the Jokers) would it tip people that they are "trick cards"?

You could just take the jokers out and put the phoenix cards in a bike case. That way spectators draw their own conclusions about the cards. Chances are no one will even question it. If they do, just claim is't a new back design and you like the feel of cards.

Maybe if we ask him, the creator can custom make some of these in bikes. You never know till you ask. If not, then just load all your bike cases with phoenix cards. I have too many gaffs that require the bike design so I would only be interested in bikes personally.
Pick a card, any card at all. Just don't pick a RED spade.

I have used this deck dozens of times and it is examinable, I feel free to hand it to the spectators. I am not sure why you would want to use a locked deck when you can get sharkey.

I dissgree.

I have my DD Phoenix deck in a Bicycle box - and it has never been questioned. The Bike vs whatever debate gets discussed here constantly.

As to another comment, I can't imagine anyone doing a Google search in mid effect or even at home to see what a "Phoenix" deck is - what will surely be remembered is the mind blowing effect however.

Do you really think that if you perform for a group of guys that, let's say, play poker every saturday night with Bicycle Cards that they buy from Walmart wont notice you pulling some odd looking cards out of the same case they are used to using? They may not say anything, but their not blind.

I would use the Phoenix card case and let them think your just using a different brand of cards. Pulling the wrong cards out of another case is odd to me.

My 14 year old son commented on that very issue when a local magician pulled the "Phil Deck" out of a Bicycle case. He knew those cards didn't look like the ones he had at home.

Well, for "Phil Deck" you can use the line "Because I need to write on its back, so I bought a cheap plastic card. I don't want to ruin my Bikes".

I see you point and to be honest I have no qualms about keeping the Phoenix cards in their own box.

But in practice so far - probably using the DD's maybe 60+ performance abd Get Sharky for 6+ months - so far not a single poker pro has questioned the cards. I keep my DD's in the Bike box and I've even done the tricks for my monthly poker group - not a word.

Maybe the teens are more astute but to my mind the effects override analysis of the props.

I bought the Get Sharky deck too but in Parlour version, so the cards are bigger. That can easily explain to the lay people why the deck is different than the usual bikes (here in France nobody anyway knows about bicycle cards...).
And I say that I have those bigger card for them to see a true miracle, and that sleight of hand is excluded with such big cards, true isn't it ??? ;-)

The double decker has some KILLER ideas available on the free PDF (see link below).

You can order the DD in some different ways so it really depends on the version you own - I have the blue backs regulars, with a one way f***e deck (same color back) on top. You can create a Phil deck, Trilogy, Ultimate Brainwave - this deck takes away any prior limits:
