Is this trick going to be sold as an ebook, download video, or physical product?

Curious.
Why do you think this routine is good enough to be sold? |

I have a lot of faith in the routine, and believe it too be visual, magical, and intriguing.
Best wishes and Merry Xmas, Kyle |

I guess what Liquid was asking Kyle, is what makes this trick worth SELLING- not what makes it good.
A visual, magical, and intriguing trick might make for a good trick but not necessarily something worth publishing or selling. In this case I see nothing new methodologically and the structure of the trick is really just several versions of other plots thrown together (and I don't see much reasoning behind why these specific tricks were merged). On the plus side, the presentation is fairly original... but original and 'good' are not synonymous. I think it needs a lot more work before I would think of releasing it. I only mention this to you because you seems like a smart kid who really loves magic. Sometimes we get so excited with a new piece that we just have to share it with the world, and this generosity can be a very good thing. But if we're TOO generous, and release things TOO early, we don't help anyone or anything- not our friends, our magic, or ourselves. I can't tell you what to do, I can only tell you what I would do. And if I was you I'd take this down, work on it some more, and release something I'd still be proud of ten years from now. Merry Christmas young dude! Ben p.s. Your inbox is full so I couldn't pm you this. Mine is not full because I have no friends. Feel free to message me and we can workshop this bad boy out. If you are so inclined. You may not be. Especially after finding out I have no friends.
If you're reading this you're my favourite magician.

Sometimes an effect needs to be worked in front of a real (and possibly unforgiving) audience before you really get to know it. Your enthusiam is a credit to you, as is your prolific creativity, but I would suggest that if you are selling your effects, take the time workshop them with experienced people (such as the ever modest Ben) - you might find this turns a reasonable effect into a great effect. Stay positive, stay creative, but don't do your ideas the injustice of releasing them (for sale) before they are fully worked out and road tested. Right, I'm off for another mince pie. My suggestion is keep this, work it (in front of real people), and put it with a few other effects down the line in a collected work. Don't be too hasty to jump on the magical capitalism bandwagon just yet.
Also, the patter needs work. There is no need to tell them everything you are doing as you do it. People are smart enough to see it for themselves. Don't insult your audiences intelligence.

I think in general this is a good trick. However, if you're considering selling it, it must meet several criteria. It lacks in originality, and seems to be a whole bunch of standard plots meshed together. The plot is not very believable - the Aces are aliens? You're young (as am I) and it's perfectly fine for the plots to be whimsical, but, in my opinion, this is a little bit extreme. There is a lack of motivation for some of the moves, and you bring the cards together with each other and the deck only for methodological reasons. The sleights also need work.
I'm always a big advocate for young magicians creating and publishing, but the most important thing is to perfect the trick first. Performing it for real audiences constantly for an extended period of time will smooth out the kinks, and you will undoubtedly create new solutions to fix some of the mentioned problems. BUT, only time will accomplish this. I definitely recommend working with Ben on this trick - he'll be of great help! Just trying to help, please don't take this offensively. -Jeff |

I think the plot of Alien abduction is fresh and fun. It could easily replace the plot of Cannibal Cards. Instead of the cards being eaten, they get abducted. In fact, the cannibal plot is rather gruesome, if you think about it!

I think it looks fine and in terms of originality, how much really is "new" these days? The plot is not my cup of tea but that can easily be changed. My issue is not with the trick, but rather single trick Releases. I was looking through best of friends by Harry Lorraine today. 500 pages, over 200 tricks I think. Based on what I paid for it, I paid about 17p a trick or 25cents. I'm guessing that wouldn't be the release price? Like others have said, I would release it as part of a bigger project.
Though it's not really my thing, I have seen a lot worse sold by some big names so don't be put off, but equally don't risk your reputation releasing it too quickly. |

And Paul, I've released several several - trick Ebooks in my magic career, and I was considering trying something different for a one off.

Kyle, my comment was not aimed at you specifically but rather the concept of single trick releases in general. I think they represent very poor value for money. I don't have anything against your trick.
