On page 1 of this thread I recommended simmering the DD coin on a stove. I reported that it worked well immediately after doing it, and it certainly did get the small insert out - I later discovered that it ruined the magnet and neglected to report that little tidbit of information.
Live and learn.

My flippers currently have some double stick tape, but I don't like it as much as contact cement, which works better than anything else I've used personally, and it is easy to take apart when required.

Proper preparation as indicated above is most of the work.
Here are a few additional tips to help with getting the most from double back sticky tape: Try not to get your fingers on it. The oils from your skin will effect the long term performance of the adhesive. Once you re-assemble the gaff, let It sit untouched for several hours without handling the gaff. Using it immediately is not a problem and sometimes you have to. I seem to get longer life from the adhesive if the gaff is not disturbed for several hours via mechanical stress, vibration, and temperature changes ( ie.. Placing it in and out of your pocket). Use double-stick tape. Works just fine! And has for a looooong time!
