I watched the "Surviving Gilligan's Island" special tonight. It sure brought back memories!
I could not believe how much Bob Denver has aged over the years!

Where's this Gilligan's Island? Sounds as if it might be in Donegal!

My agent has just tried to book me at the Holiday Inn, Gilligan’s Island. Is this a bad sign?

When I was in college 20 some odd years ago my roommate and I used to watch Gilligan’s Island in the afternoon after classes. As a joke we designed an obscure trivia quiz and posted it as a notes file quiz on the Plato Computer system at the U of I.
The response was incredible. People took it seriously. We’d watch an episode one day, write horribly difficult questions and post them for the next days quiz. Example: what did Mr. Howell use as a golf ball on episode two? (an avocado pit) We did it more for fun than anything else. We developed a following. I received an e-mail from another student who wanted to fashion a quiz after the one I designed. He even dedicated it to my roommate and I. There were hundreds of people who followed this thing every day. I went on a Disney cruise several years ago. We went to a private Island off the coast of Florida where scenes from Gilligan’s Island were supposedly filmed. For me it was the high point of the trip. When we went to MGM theme Park we were told we might get to see stars. I of course wanted to meet Bob Denver. About a year ago I had to go to a man’s house for my job. He collected autographed pictures. His largest collection was of the cast of Gilligan’s Island. An autographed picture of Bob Denver or Dawn Wells is only $15.00. You can order it off the internet. What is this fascination with Gilligan’s Island? Longing for a simpler time? The sixties were anything but simple. I think part of it is that even as odd and eccentric as these people were, they still accepted each other, even though they came from different background’s. God... am I trying to find a higher meaning in Gilligan’s Island. I think it is time to end this note. JR

Gee JR,
sounds like you and your friend really had a lot of fun with your Gilligan quiz. In regard’s to Gilligan’s Island being filmed in or around Florida, that’s only a rumor that was started by who know’s who. Truth is, The pilot episode was shot in a remote section of "Kauai, Hawaii". Moloa’a Bay to be exact. The first regular episode (Two on a raft) had scenes shot at "Zuma Beach", near Malibu California. They would later combine footage from the pilot and the first episode together in flashbacks. The little island you always see after returning from a commercial is actually "Coconut Island", one of Hawaii’s tiniest. It’s located in "Kaneohe Bay" on the northeast shore of "Oahu". The rest of the show was shot at CBS’s "Soundstage 2" with one camera and no real audience. The lagoon was on a back lot in Studio City, Ca. Just thought all you Gilligan fan’s of the Cafe might be interested.

Mary Ann crushes Ginger in all discussions I've ever heard on the topic. I'm not at all sure it would go that way in a secret ballot.
