I was thinking about putting this into my act for a nice smooth transition into billiard ball manipulation, is there anyone I should contact who did it first?
Thanks,
Alex

Alex, I'm not sure who did it first but I do know that there are many dove workers performing this including myself.

Why would you produce an egg from a dove and then transition into a billiard ball manipulation? It would seem to make more sense to stay with the egg and do some dove egg manipulation- not all that hard to accomplish.

Typically, the egg that is dropped from the dove is a billiard ball. Dove eggs are small and if performing on stage, wouldn't show well for manipulation. I don't think the audience associates the dropped egg with a billiard ball. The egg is a comical bit and it is transformed into a ball.

Of course there's nothing wrong with producing an egg and doing egg manipulation. You could drop the egg and go into an egg bag routine. It all depends on what your individual routine calls for.

House of Fakini actually did(or does) make a multiplying egg set, a shrinking egg, a giant finale egg, and the flash four finale with eggs. I know this cuz I have the whole set. My only warning is that the oblong design makes them slightly harder to manipulate.

That's pretty cool Alexo, I'll have to take a look at that!

Joseph Gabriel used to do this same transition into billiard balls in his dove act years ago. He took it out from what I heard because Johnny Thompson claims he did it first so it is his idea and doesn't like people using it - this is just what I've heard from several VERY reliable sources over the years. That's the history of it from what I know, hope it helps...

Thanks Dan, that did help. I have another transition that I will use until I have a chance to talk with Johnny Thompson and some others.

There is a possible step that could get you from an egg to a ball. There are (chicken size) rubber eggs that will bounce like a ball.

Bounce it and make the switch in the catch. (If you are not quite that brave, toss the egg to someone in the audience and make the switch when they toss it back.)

I've actually tried bouncing my fakini silicone eggs for a comedy bit but what I found was the egg shape made the bounce very unpredictable. Unless it landed perfectly there was no guarantee of which direction it was going to bounce. It go flying in the the other direction if I was a little off. Try it out but keep that in mind.

Just use a regular ball. It's a gag, anyway, so the audience won't really matter.

Then toss it out to someone in the audience and make the change when they toss it back to you. (I use a dropper.)

I have for many, many years done a bit where a dove "lays" an egg (actually fakini white golf ball) - multiplys up to 4 balls - balls transform into a giant dove egg (via hat changer)which splits open to reveal another dove. This has always gone over really well with audiences and you can feel their reaction when the giant egg appears. In all this time I have never got a sense that the audience "picked up" on it being a ball instead of an egg.

Strangly enough - I initially did this with multiplying eggs and it did not go over as well.
