That is right. He would have young ladies who were in town to work at the fair get a room then he'd slide 'em down and off 'em. Was he also the one that made sausage out of people?

Herman Mudgett was a serial killer who built a special murder house in Chicago.

Herman Webster Mudgett (May 16, 1861[1] – May 7, 1896[2]), better known under the alias of Dr. Henry Howard Holmes.

There was a book about him I've been meaning to read. From Wikipedia:

The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America (Crown Publishers, ISBN 0609608444) is a 2003 non-fiction book by Erik Larson presented in a novelistic style. The book is based on real characters and events. Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the film rights in 2010.

Bringing Chicago circa 1893 to vivid life, "The Devil In the White City" intertwines the true tale of two men - Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World's Fair, striving to secure America's place in the world; and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle."

One of my friends gave me that book for my birthday. It is very good but dry in parts.

Let's see, was Louis Cyr a western pulp novelist or am I thinking of someone else? I know who Richard Jewell is though.

You are thinking Louis Lamour, who was a great writer by the way.

So Louis Cyr is still up for grabs. Not the brother of Lily St. Cyr I would bet.

I don't know who Lily St. Cyr was but she is mentioned in a Rocky Horror Show song...

Richard Jewell was the guard who found the bomb and was accused of planting it, he didn't. I believe he's dead now.

Lily St. Cyr was an old time burlesque stripper. Anyway, Louis Cyr. Any hints or is too early?

I gave a hint, everyone here (at least some) should know who he was.

Here's a clue: He looks exactly like my best friend, Mike. Does that help Smile
I think some Canadians would still remember the name.

Jewell was a hero and an American tragedy. Cyr sounds familiar, but I can't place him.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

Okay, critter-didn't I get the serial killer? 4th post from the top? I hate keeping track.

And I was kidding about Jewell, it was horrible how he was hounded.

Herman was a serial killer, I've never heard of Gary Lockwood, who you said was a serial killer. If he isn't then no one got him right and Herman was out of line. So I guess we need Louis Cyr (hint: pronounce the last name in different ways until you find a clue) and this Lockwood person.

You did but since I didn't understand the rules yet and hadn't answered your question I thought Mudgett didn't count because I did it wrong.

Santa,
Lockwood was a stuntman and actor who played Doctor Frank Pool in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. That's why I did the HAL thing.

Here's another clue for Cyr, "Bully!"

I knew who Lockwood was (though not the 2001 thing, I remember he was the star of a sixties TV show where he played a Marine) but I'm still stumped on Louis Cyr.

I remembered Lockwood mostly from my grandpa's Westerns. When I saw 2001 I was like "Hey, it's that guy."
