Hi,
What's the tricked called or reference where I can learn it that you take a borrow shuffled deck, look at it..., obviously memorise where the aces are and do plenty of cuts, etc., and cut to the 4 aces? Anyone give me some insight please? Cheers, Waz |

If you're going to look through the deck to memorize positions, it's much faster to control the aces and go into my HaLo Aces. It's what I've been doing when a deck is handed to me, for years. HL.

Thanks Harry, I have the book and DVD and yea, it's a brilliant way. I use Halo cuts in a few routines.
I love learning the difficult sleights, etc.. So after how someone just takes a shuffled deck and can shuffle/cut and find the 4 aces. |

Could "Thanks to Zarrow" by Jerry Sadowitz be what you are looking for?

Jason England in the Unreal Works DVD shows a technique using the zarrow shuffle. It takes some memorizing but it is a cool method I hope it helps.

Thought Ben was very good, but understandably nervous.
Liked John Archer's effect too, but immediately came up with the solution, so very surprised that Penn & Teller didn't get it! |

There's an "ace gather" from a shuffled deck in the August 1989 issue of APOCALYPSE - that's in the third bound volume of all the APOCALYPSE issues.

Speaking of Ben, does anyone know where I can watch the performance? I cannot watch it on ITV due to not being in the UK.

Why don't you email Benjamin Earl and ask him? May as well get it straight from the horse's mouth.

Just by the by as it seems on topic, I thought it was very poor the way Earl squabbled over the definition of false shuffle. Of course he did one. Or, put another way, he didn't do a regular shuffle. It made him come across rather pathetic. Even without knowing the precise details, it was obvious what he was doing. Having said that, it was a very engaging performance and was beautifully framed. Which makes it all the more of a shame he was silly at the end.

Anyone here who actually knows how Ben did it? I rewatched it and paused it when he said he was memorizing the deck and noticed the first ace was six cards from top, the second was a further six cards down, the third another six and the fourth ace was four cards from the bottom. I am not at all looking for the method, the shuffling sequences are beyond me at the moment anyway, but were the placements coincidental or part of the method?

Lots of slip cuts and lots of glimpses. Also, the odd card flying out during shuffles could be a very deliberate error I think.

You do bring up an interesting point about the false shuffle, or to be more precise what actually constitutes a false shuffle. In your definition you say that because it isn't a true genuine shuffle, it is false. But is a calculated shuffle like ones used in riffle stacking false? The main point that ben uses is that it wasn't to retain a block of cards, though he is retaining the aces through his shuffling procedure. Not trying to start an argument rather get different view points on what constitutes a false shuffle
