I have started to send out a monthly newsletter to clients.
How many here have done the same and what results have you received? Do you send it monthly or less often? Have you found it increases business? Do you construct it yourself or use some of the available ones, Jack Turk, Jim Palmer etc. ? I have seen some that feature the performer only and some that instead have interesting articles for the client and have a small amount of the performers promo. Thank you for your help. Dave |

I send out a monthly real snail mail newsletter and in it educate my clients and prospects on how they can use me. I educate them on the types of events I can do and how my services can benefit them. I also educate them on the fact that I do business by referrals.
Each month I book events as a direct result of the newsletter. Last month I had someone book me for an event and they said, "We would have never thought of you for this event unless we read about it in your newsletter." So I believe newsletters are a great tool to combine with everything else like sending personal note cards, networking, asking for referrals, prospecting, cold calling. When I say simple, I mean nothing fancy. Very low key and simple to produce.

It sounds like a big headache to produce over time and probably a waste of time for the client.
Life is short and a lot of these newsletters are simply deleted or trashed (as I do with my newsletters from my dentist, Hewlett Packard, AAA, etc...) I mean no offense, I just think we should consider this before we start a newsletter or Birthday Club etc... -Mary Mowder |

I would prefer a newsletter with a more personal touch, especially if it was going to clients on this reguler a basis. For propects, Jonathan's example is more about selling, both his services and product, so once in awhile may be enough.
This does not mean you don't relate an interesting story about something that happened at a show you did etc., or your plans to add that new effect for the "fabulous" holiday show you are putting together. I used to receive over a hundred hardcopy newsletters over the course of a year (in my purchasing managers' position), and the ones I enjoyed most were those that had personal content about the folks I was dealing with on the phone, or got to see perhaps only once or twice a year. These were my favourites, and they got passed around. TIP: In one real estate newsletter I received the agent gave a prize from a drawing of the referrals he got in a certain time period. This let folks know he accepted referrals, and that he appreciated it. That is not to say that you do not 'gift' all those that send business your way in some way or another. B
