Hi Magicians!

After having trouble finding a local magician in my area, I am thinking of starting a site that would connect magicians with customers.

Does that sound like it would be an interesting idea? Are that sites that already offer this service that are hard to find?

Do you feel like you have enough work? Is it hard to find gigs?

Would you be willing to pay by the lead ($1 a lead) or by the month ($10 a month)?

Any feedback would be appreciated. I love magicians and really admire what you do!

Hi allisonjones,

Welcome to the magic Café. Yeah that is a great idea and it is actually something that is in big business already.
You have described exactly what an "entertainment agent" is. There are lots of entertainment agents around, and here is a quick example:
http://www.entertainoz.com.au

That is the one who I registered with.

You could give it a try if you have a big heart for your idea, and perhaps consult the local magicians around your area to ask if they are interested.

If you care to read through this Tricky Business forum, you'll find that many magicians who are serious about getting the business are also serious about tweaking their own web sites for display, content, and SEO. You'll also find a few queries about listing with "entertainment services" (note here: I have never read a post that got rave responses - "List with them and you'll have more gigs than you can handle!").

There's also several marketing courses for magicians, all teaching us how to grow our business. Listing with an agent or service is certainly one way, but most actually seem to prefer growing their own business.

My thought is "If you're serious about your magic business, then you'll do what it takes to get found and get business. If you're not serious enough to do that, then you're likely not serous about your magic, either."

Yes there are sites like that.

GigMasters.com and GigSalad.com are two of the biggest in the U.S.

We talked about a site before that contacts us to see if we want to pay 1 or 2 dollars to connect with the customer. It is not a guarantee the show will go thru. Most magicians were against it.
