Got a vintage "Deep Freeze" via the big auction site, and unfortunately discovered poor treatment had taken it's toll.
The plastic base for the pilsner style glass had been poorly glued back on to the base, and the insert gimmick had a glob of white glue inside at the "tip" of the gimmick. Must have been done a long time ago, 'cause there is no way I can remove that tell-tale glue from the gimmick. Is there some craftsperson who can make a new gimmick out of acrylic or plastic? Thanks wk

I'm sorry I didn't clarify that I would pay most handsomely for the creation of a new gimmick. Anyone good with acrylic casting/polishing?

Goo Gone may be able to remove the glue. If not I know standard paint remover will remove white glue. Just carefully apply and whip off.
If you do a search in the workshop area, making plastic forms was discussed not to long ago. A number of site references were given as well. |

Thanks. The paint remover did little but "fog" up the acrylic areas applied to, and the white glue at the bottom is "welded" to the acrylic after years of age. My best bet is to have the gimmick duplicated from my antique prop.
Now if there's a creative resource available.....please advise.

They didn't have the facilities to craft this gimmick. Thanks anyway.

Sorry to hear that, their site said they do custom single pieces in plastic.
I would contact Abbott's and see if Greg Bordner would make it for you, they have the tools necessary. If you do not want to make it yourself, then there is little chance. I worked for a manufacturing company that did their own plastic molding for forms used on the manufacturing floor. It was an open gas heat process that softened plastic sheets and when the plastic was flexable, it would lower on wood templates of the forms. It cooled, and they cut the parts out. This can be done at home with some work. Make a wood form of the gimmick. See here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-M......ke-your/ See here: http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/vac......dex.html Form machine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N0B......Y6GNM48G More information: http://www.ehow.com/facts_5663537_vacuum......tic.html This is similar to the process of molding plastic, but you can do it at home. |

Can the glob be worked down with files and microgrit paper and be polished out. I have done some similar stuff. Pm' me with better pictures and I'll take a look at it.

Thanks VERY much for your help! I couldn't attach any images to a PM, so I've attached a single photo of the damaged gimmick to this post.
Look forward to hearing from you! Click here to view attached image.

There's something mighty "fishy" about this server-and it's ability to upload a single image?
