A mobile phone buzzing makes exactly the same sound as a tattoo gun.

Excellent demo! Clear and precise.

Kudos to you for not using loud music, editing shots, or crazy effects.

Very interested in this. Are there any issues with a phone other than the intended being set off?

Signal2noise: You will have to rephrase the question, sorry.

I think he means, "Will this affect other phones in the room or nearby?".

Ah, yes. Thank you Sid. The Moment will effect ONLY the desired phone. Good question.

Steve- aren't you from Holland?

Surely they are used to folk who bring stuff in their luggage that vibrates?

Anansi.

That was funny... and probably true.

it's the guys at Liverpool airport as I'm leaving, that I'm worried about.
And though I live in Holland, once those guys hear my Manchester accent...............

..had to respond to the last couple of posts....speaking as a pilot we once had a baggage handler loading the jet who became suspicious of a bag that was making a rather strange sound; we had the bags offloaded onto the tarmac and the passengers to ID their bags. A young lady identified the suspicious bag as hers and was asked to open it.....well you can guess the rest! One rather red-faced girl and a wonderful story for the pub!!
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

I have to agree marketing with no hype works for me. And a really clever idea.

Obviously Scott knows you and is fine about wondering off and leaving you with his cell(mobile) phone, but I wonder how this would play in the normal run of things.

We don't all play nice places where everyone is a friend on their best behaviour. In some places I frequent, maybe rightfully, many would not be happy handing over their phone to me (or anyone) and would further object to me going through menus making out I was setting up the count down alarm. Many people have very personal stuff (messages etc) on their phones and would not like someone seeing them. Personally I would prefer to use my own phone as all it is apparently used for here is a countdown timer, so it really doesn't matter whose phone you are using. There would also be zero objection to you using your own phone.

Also, has no one ever questioned you as to how you know:

1. That all possible phones you may get have a countdown timer on them, (I had to look at my old one before I found it and didn't even know it had one)

And

2. Do they ever question how you appear to know the menu system on every known make and model of phone and how to get to the countdown timer so quickly and set it?

Again, using your own phone would be the answer to this: You would know if it had a timer and how to set it quickly.

There is a supplementary question to this along the same lines but can't be asked here in the open forum.

I was wondering when someone would mention how Scott left his phone behind. He was a bit nervous being filmed and walked away without his phone. He kindly waited until we stopped filming to come back for it. We often show Scott magic in the the Café as we frequent the place. Scott had never seen the effect before but we needed his permission to film before we came in that day. Regarding your other questions, thanks for the opportunity to bring some important points to light:

1) Yes, many, many people do not even know their phone has a timer. That's a GOOD thing, and we take maximum advantage of it. We have NEVER had anyone object to either of us going though their phone, and for people who do not know us, we ask. If someone were to object, we would ask someone else, use our own phone (see below) or not do the effect. Of course, you can have the participant find the timer OR ALARM for you on their phone and then hand it to you to set it. That way, you could not see personal information.

2) Simply, no. Individual participants/spectators only ever see us do this with one particular phone, my friend. They only see that we know THEIR phone, not every phone. Scott's alarm setting was really easy to find, other phones may or may not take longer to set.

Using your own phone is an absolute last resort. In fact, I would rather not do the effect rather than be accused of using a phone with some kind of "app".
