I am writing the case segment of the script now and would like to expand on your suggestion of

“Its possible Dan filled the bowl with his name, so slip after slip comes out with "Dan" written on it”.

I am thinking of using two cases, one gimmick case, or two gimmick cases, or a gimmick case and a normal case.

I walk on stage with the first case, place it on the table and open it;

Question; Is this the gimmick case?

Question; Is this the un-gimmick case?

Remove the bowl.

Slip after slip comes out with "Dan" written on it

Ask Dan where the real names are, he sheepishly says “in the other case on the floor”.

I close the first case and remove the case and bowl from the table;

I pick up the second case and place it on the table, open it,

Question; Is this the gimmick case?

Question; Is this the un-gimmick case?

Pull out the kids name and Dan announces the winner.

Hold the prize until the end of the show

Do I use the gimmick case first and when I pull the small bowl out of the second case; or do I save the gimmick case last?

Or should I forget about two cases and just use one?

Or I can buy another gimmick case and use two gimmick cases?

No need to use two cases. Start out with the explanation of the give away, then open the case and pull out the bowl. Tell the audience your friend Dan will select the winner and read the name - bring him out. He wants to know what the prize is and offers some cool ideas that are outrageous. Finally - pull out a slip and whatever is written on it - read "Dan", drop it back in and mix them up - it reads "Dan" again. Then realize it doesn't and make the award. Keep It Simple - make the lines funny.

I came into this conversation late...but I can say that as Executive Director of the ConVENTion I would prefer that NO laser pens be sold or distributed. No matter how many times you tell people not to point this at the performer or other people, someone will, and I can't and won't take the chance. Why is it important to have laser pens at a vent ConVENTion? How does that relate to our art? I don't like to say no, but in this case I would ask you , Steve, not to bring them. I don't know how I overlooked this before.
