Does anyone have any thoughts about where to buy a program to keep track of customers. I was thinking along the lines of automatic pop ups to remind me when to call or send further info' mail merge, contact details, what type of show, etc. Any help appreciated.
Many Thanks, David

I just use Microsoft Works Database to keep track of my clients and magic club members. I don't know of any kind of popup alerts, though. For that, you'd probably need a calendar program.

I just purchased "My Database" yesterday. It set me back a whole $30, and I am already very pleased with it. Although it does not have the pop-up reminders, that I was also looking for, the other benefits are great. I tried to teach myself a microsoft database, but found it too complicated. However, I had this program up and running within a few minutes. It is very flexible and user friendly. If you are interested, I purchased it at Office Max.

I would reccomend using Filemaker Pro or Microsoft Access. Both are databse style programs that are very advanced. You can set up your own forms and listings and then cross refernce them as well as run reports. It really works out well and is worth the investment. These are both complicated but will give you total control. There are others out there for less money. It seems you have found one of these. I am happy to see it working well for you. Let us all know how it goes for you.
Please PM me with the information. I might want to check it out.

I think Microsoft Access is the best for small databases

I originally bought GoldMine, but didn't like it and sold it on ebay.
I've now been using ACT since 1999, and love it.

Don't use acess! Its too complicated to set up and you might screw up. Get something like ACT or Goldmine, that is already set up to be customer database.

Zack:
I guess it really depends on what you want the database to do for you and how much control do you want out of it. With any application out there today, there are beginner versions, as well as high-end, advanced versions. I guess you have to ask yourself how much do you want it to do for you, how much can you spend and what time you have to be able to learn the new software.

I use ACT! for the mac and I keep track of things day to day using my Palm m100 (a really old version and available for about $50 on the open market. Hot links to my computer and is easy to import to Act.
I can't live without it these days. The lighted screen even lets me see driving directions in the dark. The notepad feature lets me do a card revelation, too! Lee Darrow, C.Ht.

All,
Bob Miller has a database application for magicans called MagicBase. You can download a demo copy to try it out. Here's the link: http://www.bobmillermagic.biz/MB1.htm
