To all,
Just came across an original 1936 Guy Jarrett book on Magic & Stage Craft that we have in our possession. Can anyone assist in advising if this is as sought after as we were told and what an approximate value would be? The book appears to be in very good condition. Please reply here or feel free to PM me with info. Thanks, Mike Myrtle Beach, SC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You might want to ask the mods to move your post to this thread:

Is this the small book and not the big coffee table book edition. If it's the small book, I'll go with $700-$1,000 for the book as an estimate.

Yes, the small one. I believe the other you may refer to is the Steinmeyer collaboration with a similar title.
Thanks for your feedback and Donal I have posted the question under the 'turn the page' section, too. Mike ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The covers of the original Jarrett book were typically blue. There might be other colored covers. It is very archaic looking, for a reason. Jarrett personally printed these and personally bound each book. It sold at what other magicians thought was a high price. Very few were purchased. He gave copies to some magicians he liked. Somehow, Fetaque Sanders ended up with two. David Price sold one of them for Fetaque and I beleive the other copy went to Sammy Smith. Jarrett met Fetaque at the Chicago Worlds Fair and befriended him there. Fetaque was performing as a hindu magician, with a turban, because black magicians were not to widely accepted to all the general population.
Jarrett advertised in major magic magazines. Being an eccentric, he expected everyone to knock his door down to get a copy. After there was not much interest in the sell, he destroyed the remaining copies. You have a nice little treasure. I have a copy that is signed and inscribed by Jarrett. It belonged to McDonald Birch. |

I thought I saw an ad in a magic magazine by "Mr. Warmth" for $5.00 when he was selling it.

Kevin, I believe that was the beginning price - $5.00. Then I think it went up to about $10.00, maybe to draw more attention. Garry
