Does anyone have a source for aluminum extrusions - this is the piece that holds the side to the bottom, or side to side, etc... for building a road case. I have found some suppliers that are specific to the "case building" industry. The price seems to be inflated. So what I guess I am really looking for the supplier that supplies the case industry retailers.
What type of metal company would I talk to or look for that makes extrusions? What would I even ask them for? "I want a piece of metal to make a road case" probably won't really work.lol. I do know it is a type of "structural extrusion". And if I got a great deal on some bulk extrusions, does anyone want to build some cases of their own, and share the cost... if the price was right? (I would think that I really don't need 10,000 linear feet, all by myself...lol) Scott |

You talking about the metal "L" edging or the corner protectors?

I am looking for pieces like these.... http://www.cnsenterprises.com/store/cart......ist&c=13
Basically the edges that hold one side to another. The plywood slides into the extrusion, and is riveted to the aluminum. As well as the "lip" pieces where a lid comes down and seals. Both are listed on the above page. These may be good prices as far as I know....lol thx scott |

Actually, those are good prices. For 12 - 13 feet of what you're looking for, not bad at all.

You will notice how the edges of some are designed to overlap similar to a tongue and groove splice. This is done to get a good seal when closing a lid. You can find aluminum in flat stock, angles and U channels at many hardware stores, but you won't be able to create the same quality of case. In the end, with all the other case hardware needed, you will likely not save anything over buying a real road case.

Thanks guys!
Glad to see that the prices are reasonable. TCH is actually the name of the company I have been trying to remember (I think) that someone told me of a few months back. And after I log out of here, I will check both TCH and Reliable. Again, thanks guys! Scott |

Just checked TCH, it was in fact the company I have been trying to remember. And, Mark is correct... the prices I listed originally are a bit better.

Good luck with the case Scott. Maybe you can post a picture of it when you're finished.
