I just wanted to let the coin-guys know what I found interesting at the FISM concerning cointricks.
-first of all Armando Lucero. He was my personal highlight last week. You might have heard of his coin-matrix "Coin Menagerie" by now. This is a routine that expresses the very heart and soul of close-up magic. I have never seen a routine more beautiful and magical in my life. I forsee Armando will be the next big thing in close-up. -I saw Wayne Dobson from England perform a simple 3-coin matrix called CoinFlux, with one hand. It looked simply incredible. As a matter of fact it somehow emulated some "feel" of Armando's routine, while being at the other end of the spectrum...(sleights/gaffs). I bought the routine from Wayne just to express my respect in his thinking. If you wanted to do something for television that's only 20 seconds, this is it! -Enourmous amounts of euro-coin gimmicks out there. Just for those who ask if they are available, they are!! -I saw Josh Jay and Rune Clan do a Duelling Cointricks at Josh's stand. Both very accomplished coinguys. -I got John Carney's new DVD "Carney on Ramsay". On it are two classic routines Coins and Cylinder and Coins in the Hat. While having lunch with John he did the Cylinder routine. It will be my next study. The DVD is one of the greatest lessons in (coin) direction of control I've seen in a long time. Really in-depth! Don't expect earthshaking new moves though. This is the real work on psychology and only for those who want to take their magic to higher levels. John's lessons sometimes remind me of Tommy Wonder's... -Greg Wilson got some very interesting ideas that take spectator-involvement to a new level. I'm looking forward seeing his new coinstuff come out.

Nice report Dan, sounds like you had a great time. Are you going to go to Vegas this September by any chance?

When will some of these routines be available to the public...you know...people that aren't fortunate enough to make it out to see FISM? This sounds too good to be true.

Everything, except for Armando's magic is out for the public. Either written or on video/dvd or as a marketed trick.

Hello Mister LeFay,
I only went to Fism on monday. I didn't have the chance to see Armando Lucero's version of coin-matrix. The version of coin-matrix which you performed at the close-up gala looked very magical. It is the best version I have seen. Congratiulations!! |
