FWIW Did you know today, January 31st, is Magician's Day? The holiday celebrates the life of the Patron Saint of Magicians, St. Juan Bosco!
Here in the United States, Magician's Day passes by largely unnoticed, even by magicians. But in most Spanish-speaking countries, Bosco is so highly regarded folks send each other gifts and greetings bearing the magician's likeness! So without further adieu...Happy Birthday to all you magi!! Cardamagically Dom

Wow!
I knew it was the feast day of St. John Bosco, but I did not know of his patronage! Is it Juan or John? Or is it both being that Juan is John in spanish? I believe? Any way, Cool! |

It wasn't until 2002 that it was made official. In the early 1800’s he did magic and juggling shows to raise money for orphans. Founded the Salesian order.
...what if I could read your mind?

We have a day?
Hmmm... I think we should start encouraging lay people to send us gifts. Many gifts... David

Hi! I'm actually salesian brother (I belong to Salesian order). Reading stories of John Bosco inspired me to get into magic. If you ever have opportunity, read his biography. He was really good slight of hand/mentalism magician. Being a child was already able to entertain crowds. I think it's great that he is actually patron of magicians.

We refer to him here as Don Bosco. Many youth organizations are named after him.
Ciao for now Erik

He is patron of young people as well, and all work that Salesians of Don Bosco do is dedicated to young people.
