So here's the Mid-winter dream:

After having returned last week from a vacation in balmy Barbados, and freezing our butts off here, my wife and I started musing about offering our services at a tropical resort next winter: I would perform magic and/or teach magic to kids, and she would give Yoga classes (she's a certified Yoga instructor). We have a 16 month old boy, so we'd want to find a kid-friendly resort. Ideally we'd do this for the months of January, February and March.

Anyone here ever do something like this? Any suggestions? It doesn't matter to us where the resort is, as long as it's hot, there's a beach, it's kid-friendly, and they have Pina Coladas.

Thanks!

Todd

Try the Club Med. Not sure if they would do long term though, also you must remember that you will still have the bills back home to pay. And the resort pay for "on staff" may not be great.

I guess it depends on how much they can pay to make it worth our while. Maybe one or two months is more realistic. I checked out the Club Med recruitment page, and they list all kinds of workers they're looking for (including circus instructor), but nothing about magician or yoga teacher, so it looks like we would have to create new positions for ourselves if we tried to go the Club Med route.

I do know club Med has used magicians, but I'm just not sure for how long at a time. There are a couple of family Club Meds.

I did a two month contract in the Dominican Republic a few years ago for a chain of all inclusive resorts. 4 shows a week at 4 different resorts. All exp. paid and 1st class accommodations (same as the guests.) The pay wasn't great at $900 a week plus merch sales. But I did have a blast though and it was so much better then working a cruise ship.

I worked thru an agent who is now out of business (as far I know.) But you can always try to target a chain of resorts or find a booker already providing entertainment at the resorts.

That sounds like a nice gig, Will. All expenses paid and 1st class accommodations is really sweet: if I had that arrangement I'd be happy with $900 a week. Thanks for sharing that.

Todsky you are too modest! At all inc + I'd personally be happy with pocket money!

I do hope that you find what you're looking for. It took me a long time (for some *** reason)to figure out what people meant when they said "it'll be in the very last place you look"/ That being said it will happen if you do not stop looking!

David, did I say $900 a week? I meant $90! Smile
