I, personally, own the Johnson Okito and Boston box and I think they're great.
I've heard people really like the following: -David Roth's Okito Coin Box set -Buddha Okito Box -Johnson Okito Box -Jim Zee Coin Boxes -Beyond Okito Box set (gimmicked)

I like the Buddha boxes: Boston, slot, sucker, etc. They work well and look nice. Bob

If you are beginning with the Okito box, get a cheap one. You can get a nice crafted one if you are successfull with it and enjoy working with it.

I'm currently using a magnetic Buddha style Okito Box. You need a steel core half dollar, but it opens up a whole lot of new and different possibilities, in addition to the standard Okito moves.

If you are only interested in the Okito and are looking for a cheap one that looks good, this is the one I have...
http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_in......_id=2277 (I did not purchase the box here...this is just so you can see what it looks like.) I have this box, but I may be selling it in order to purchase one of David Roth's or Jim Zee's boxes, as I am interested in incorporating a slot box and a Boston box in my act. The Dragon Okito box does not have those varieties available.

Jim Zee is no longer making coin boxes. Daytona Magic bought the rights to his work though and Jim tells me the guy they got making them does a good job. If you want his brand call Daytona.

I got one for about ten bucks from Elmwood magic, works fine and looks great with a little polishing from time to time. Here you can see an effect I'm working on utilizing an Okito:
http://home.comcast.net/~davidsole/index.html Its called "Card, coin, and brass box". I'm pretty happy with the vanish at the beginning. Dave |

Nice routine. I like the one handed final turn over of the box.

I was inspired by Mike Power's "Boston Massacre", but I don't have the proper box to do his effect.
Sooooo, I tried to think up something that I could use with my Okito. I don't know how original it is, but I did make it up myself. It's a lot simpler than the Massacre, but I'm happy with it at the moment. Dave |

I enjoyed it. The first vanish looked excellent on the clip. Box turnover move was good also. And I agree the final box drop was sweet.
I'm partial to a Spellbound type of box turnover (revolving the base with right thumb). The motivation for the Spellbound position being to show the box clearly empty to all. |

Thanks for the kind words friends. The final drop is all about dropping it at the right height. I BARELY give it enough height to turn over, to keep it from bouncing all over the mat.
Funny story about the Okito. When I first got into magic in late 2001, I rushed out and bought all the normal things beginners do(I. Deck, Mental photography, Scotch/soda, Color Monte, etc) That box was one of them. Learned the turnover moves and then thought, is that it? Put it away until I decided to put together this effect. I've gotten some questions as to the legitimacy of the effect itself. I don't want to divulge my methods, but I WILL say that it wasn't staged for the camera. I perform it live with the spectator immediately in front of the mat AND everything is examinable at the end. I performed it like three times for my wife, showed her the moves(she is my worst critic, best spectator), then continued to fry her. I love to watch their jaws drop after the first vanish. I put together a number of ideas(some normal and some not), and most importantly kept it SIMPLE, to make people believe they just saw the impossible. And that's what its all about. All the best, Davem |

Thanks,
If you think mine is nice, you should check out my inspiration: Mike Powers' "Boston Massacre". I was floored. But I didn't have the proper props to pull it off, so I had to make do with my Okito. Check out his "Defective Deck" routine as well. Here is the link to his wonderful site. Only a handful of tricks on video, but they are great. http://www.mallofmagic.com/index.htm DaveM |

Also a second for David Roth's Okito Coin Box set. It led the way for me to start with a slotted box.

Speaking of Roth, his "Expert Coin Magic" video which focuses on the Okito box is a very good reference. Nice routines and good info. I believe it is Volume 11 of the series.
