I've noticed the same thing. Revisiting effects with new twists always does the trick. (pun not intended)
The real art of magic distracting your audience with your eyes body and mouth while your hands do the real work....

Hadn't performed card through hankey for years, so I brushed off the cobwebs and used it. The reaction was fantastic. So a little bit of advice, don't go buying any more effects: they are either in your drawer, your memory, or any of the tens or hundreds of classic effects you have on your bookshelf. They are waiting there to be rediscovered.

Another old favorite just got brought back into the fold - Amadeo's Acrobatic matchbox. VERY strong, yet, I had dropped it for some reason or another (wear and tear, I believe) and now, it's back.
The other fun thing about resurrecting old material is that it saves you money! ;) Lee Darrow, C.H.
